      Zinnia:
Thanks Cherrygal for your clear explanation. Indeed I'm thinking of applying to one of the popular school via phase 2C.

But it doesn't make sense that we can't move to another address that is still within 1km without risking our children being transferred out, or worse parent ended up going to jail.
Yes it doesn't make sense but MOE has replied that they only accept divorce or bankruptcy reasons to even move within the same distance or nearer. You can try asking them again. If you don't get their approval, move at your own risk.

Under what circumstances will MOE allow the child to remain in the school even though the family is unable to reside at the address used for registration for at least 30 months from the commencement of the P1 Registration Exercise?
        \t

MOE recognises that some families may face exceptional circumstances that prevent them from remaining at the address for the entire duration of the child’s primary school studies. We wish to assure parents who find themselves in such cases that MOE is prepared to allow the child to remain in the registered school, provided they are able to provide compelling grounds to justify the change in residential address, e.g. severe economic hardship or matrimonial disputes that necessitates the move.

MOE will evaluate and assesses the circumstances for each case, before making a decision as to whether to transfer the child out of the school.

Parents who move to a residence that is within the same home-school distance category as the declared address used for registration, can continue to fulfil the 30 months stay condition based on the new address.

I think MOE is more willing to negotiate on moving within the 30-month period now. Those who have good reasons to move and can ensure that your new address is within the same home-school distance, you can call MOE to check your cases.

Moving outside the required home-school distance within the 30 months is still a no-no.

            Hello everyone!

I’m a clueless first time mum who will be going through the P1 registration upcoming in June 2016! After reading through the threads and being kiasu, I just wish to double-confirm about the rules.

Will there by any new rules closer to the period in June? I mean typically will MOE come up with new rules when closer to registration period?

            * Have managed to get answers for my other questions. Hence deleted the questions.

            Thank you.

Hi all, am preparing for registration next year for 2018 in-take. question about address.

              1. currently stay Central
              2. parents stay bukit merah
              3. every day, ferry the 3 monkeys to my parents place and my mum takes care of them
              4. eldest to register for P1 next year

currently i am looking for a place near parents for:
              - reduce the traveling
              - nearer to school

which would be a better option if in due time, i still cant find a place near the school?
              a. change address to parents’ address (move in to stay with parents, and leave my own house as weekend home)
              b. statutory declaration

That will depend whether the school you are keen is within 1km or between 1km and 2km.
Option a is preferred if the school is within 1km.
Option b works if school is between 1km and 2km.

currently looking at onemap, other than Gan Eng Seng, the rest are considered 1-2KM… haa… i am surprised Alexandra is 1-2KM

looks like option b is chop-stamped the way to go unless i find a place nearer the school.

The popular schools in Bt Merah require balloting for those in the less than 1 km category. So, yes, seems like you don't have much choice unless you relocate. Perhaps around Kim Tian?

Yeah… Still can’t find one near this area from current listing available. Either price too steep or chinese-quota filled.

                      Still looking…

                      Either Bt Merah or Queenstown…

                        Hi Mummies,

Any of you here using the rented flat method to get nearer to the ideal school? I'm intending to rent out my current HDB flat and rent another condo for 30 months to get into the ideal school. Is this legal? Im violating any rules?

No worries. You will still be complying to MOE's rules if you do that.

Just wondering. We are currently staying in Dover but are planning to move to the east somewhere to follow the company relocation. We have not bought nor rented a new place in the east. Can we use the current Dover address and register our child in one of the schools in the east? We will select a school that has more vacancies than registered applicants. Thanks.
