Actually, tutor are not the best way to go. Consulting the school teachers is the best method for the students to learn as tutor does not always teach the right thing, and the teaching style and content can be different as well. Thus, the child can be confused over what the tutor is teaching and what the teacher is teaching in school. Furthermore, tutors nowadays are so expensive as well. It is not worth the money seriously.

AGREED with u but realised those who started it will since young will continue to do it all the way thru JC
I believed it is possible to go thru the 12 years fm primary school to A levels without any tuition
But then, lots of determination, self discipline and self motivation needed n I don't deny that some students will really need external help too.

Admittedly I know only a handful of full-time GP private tutors. Of those I know, they all have first-class honours degrees and master's degrees from prestigious overseas universities and several years' experience; some are ex-MOE.

I would agree that in the first instance the student should consult the school teachers. However, it is often the case that a private tutor is engaged because the student is not satisfied with the teaching style, content or lack of individualised attention of what goes on in his/her JC. I am not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with a student who feels this way. It is, though, interesting to ask JC students for example how regularly essays have been set in class and how useful the feedback was.

Students are rarely confused over what the tutor is teaching and what the teacher is teaching in JC. Most students appreciate that tutors are supplemental and simply helping to polish them.

If a student and/or parent feels that engaging a private tutor helps to obtain that needed grade, be it for admission to an oversubscribed degree course or to obtain a scholarship, then they will consider it money well spent.

My daughter knows the dates of the promo period, but I'm not sure if she has the detailed timetable yet. Hers begins 2nd week of term 3, I believe.
