Belle:
Can I know that there will still be normal school during the few days before PSLE right?
yes...daughter still has supplementary lesson 2 days before PSLE English. -
We are also having prelim exams this week. Eng & Math papers over. Ds says each paper this time seems to have specific components that are more challenging than before, like vocab section & Math paper 2. Well, still have 3 more days to go, can't wait for the week to be over. Looking forward to this weekend for a good break

Ya cross fingers that kids don’t fall sick. Ds has his prelims in an airconditioned exam hall area. He said that it was v cold and asked for a jacket to bring to school for tomorrow’s exams. Came as a surprise to me as he is normally quite tolerant of the cold so I guess it must really be freezing inside the hall.

Daughter said the math word probe were tough…asked her if she attempted…she told me she did. As long as she did not leave blanks.

Thank you so much for all your replies.
For a typical student, does it mean one can only appeal if one meets cutoff? But if 1, 2 or 3 points away from cutoff, appeals are not entertained?
Tryg to clarify. Cuz in 2013 there are many successful appeals for psle scores 1 to 3 pts below cutoffs. Then last year, a number of pri sch mates were told by sec schools that they can only appeal if they are at cutoff.
Actually I am not too sure if it is fair for sec schs to consider appeals based on sch results, some of the pri schs set really tough papers and some are pretty easy. My dd’s sch pps are manageable. There are several full marks for Maths and Sciences, a lot of 90-plus. -

Math word probe refers to problem sum qns? Good that she attempted and not leave blanks. -

Just for clarifications, even if the student fall sick during PSLE, it is not his Prelims results which are used as the PSLE T score, else it will open a floodgate of students who are \"sick\" if they really did well for Prelims. There is a detailed computation to the T score of this students, in brief, the MOE will look at the better 2-3 students before this students and worse 2-3 students for the Prelims. Then MOE will use these students PSLE scores and compute an average (plus some adjustments) for this students. Hope it clarifies.ilovelaksa:
Hi, my dd's class was told to work hard for the prelims as it can be used for appeals later. Is this true? Cuz last yr was strictly no appeals, entry by cutoff only.
Yes, best to treat Prelim as though it is already PSLE.
For children who happen to fall sick on actual PSLE exam day, running a high fever, can't think clearly, properly for Maths PSLE open-ended problem-solving questions in Section B or C, they may need to fall back on Prelim results. -
And a student has to be very sick indeed before mechanisms involving the prelim scores are invoked. In the case of the mass food poisoning which I mentioned in an earlier post, several of the students I believe were required to proceed with the PSLE despite being hospitalised; special examination arrangements were made in the hospital. Only one or two students were excused.

The P6 prelim papers are usually so much tougher than any other exam papers so to use the scores as a fall-back for the psle is not very reasonable.
DD had her math prelim paper yesterday and she said Paper 2 was very tough. Tougher than all the other practice prelim papers she did. My heart sank upon hearing this though I was expecting this. :nailbite: DD's teacher warned the class that the coming Science Paper is going to be a difficult one also. Sigh!
I told dd to pray and just to do her best. Poor kids.

yes...when she told me she attempted all the questions and didn't leave any blanks, that is the biggest achievement. in the past, she won't even attempt to try and get some marks for method...so I hope she can get at least 1-2 marks even if the answer is wrong.janet88:

prelim papers are known to be tougher...so I will just encourage her to do her best.
