      Hi mummies,

I have sent my P3 daughter to a trial class in write connection and was impressed with the work they are doing. I am now under waitlist on a Friday night 5-7pm in Parkway and I heard that there are 10 others in the waitlist. They could easily form a class but they do not have a room to start off with.

When I enquire whether there is possibility of opening a class 7-9pm on a Friday night, the personnel said that there is a chance but need to gather at least 4 students to start a class. I feel that if parents from 5-7pm knows about 7-9pm class, I am sure some will take it.

Nevertheless, I shall see whether there is anyone interested in 7-9pm Friday in this forum. Hope to hear from you.

      Cheers
      Dido

        Hi mummies,

Do you see improvement in your child after enrolling them to The Write Connection?
Is TWC better than TLL (anyone to share )?

          Hi,

I probably can comment on TLL as my elder son (12) has gone through its program for past 3 years. TLL Compo writing in their English program was of a top notch quality. They provided him with intensive training with lots of reference materials to improve on his Compo. This also meant lots of homework given by TLL due to that. But it really paid off, I can see the vast improvement on his writing skill.

But ever since TLL was sold to another company and expanded aggressively, they revamped it and reduced the work assigned to the children. My younger girl (9) currently in TLL did not get what the Brother used to get. Therefore practice or homework was little or none at times, and given the high fee that I am paying, it is not worth anymore.

This is the reason why I have started to source for a good Compo writing program to fill the gap that TLL has created. I will withdraw her from TLL once I get a slot in The Write Connection.

Hope this helps you to decide better.

          All the best
          Dido

            Hi Dido

Appreciate your insights. Can I ride on and ask if you have ever compared against The Alternative Story?

Had took a look at The Write Connection materials while sourcing for my P1 to give her a head start. I was impressed too. Will be arranging a trial for her soon.

              Hi Mama123,

I went to The Alternative Story at Parkway Centre and was not impressed with their setup. It is the usual counter with no one to man the booth. I do admit they have excellent books and I myself have bought them all ; )

What I like about The Write Connection is the detail comment on your child’s writing. Other than the usual marking like other centres, the teacher will give a report on what could be done better for certain sentences.

On top of that, it was very structured and it has a theme every week for the child to work on. They will cover comprehension and new vocab words as well. If my child gets in, I guess I have to teach her grammar on my own. Though I am not up to standard, but there are plenty of good assessment books that I can rely on.

Sound like I am selling The Write Connection…I guess it is important to give credit for a good job done.

              Cheers
              Dido

Agree… I was bought over by their feedback and comments given for each piece of writing. My worry is I can’t catch up with the homework and correction after each session as my son is one who is still not independent to do on his own.

                    Hi all,

Read abt the good reviews of TWC and I’m thinking of enrolling my P3 girl who is weak in compo writing. However, the year is coming to an end and I’m still contemplating if I should let my girl join mid term in TWC (if there’s vacancy and if TWC allows), or join at the start of P4 next year. Anyone knows when does the term starts in TWC? How’s the fees structure like? And the time slot at their Bukit Timah/ Jurong East branch? Called their centres a few times but no one picks up. Sent them an enquiry through their website also no reply…

Me!! I've just contacted TWC-Parkway Parade, and indicated my interest to join this new class for Friday, 7-9pm for next year's P3 and P4. They only need 4 to start a class - so we just need to get two more for next year's P4. We can tell them we are registering together to get the one-off group discount!

                        Hi,

Does TWC teach paper 2 especially Comprehension, S&T etc? Or just simply creative writing only?
