2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)

Now may not be a good time for those families with younger siblings cos they will be having their SA2 soon.
-
Most schools will have the bookshop and uniform stalls at the school on Reporting Day (the next working day after posting results are released, and kids have to report to their new schools). Those who already have COs and quite sure can meet the COP (200 usually), can go ahead to purchase uniforms ahead of time to avoid the queue on Reporting Day. Some schools will already have the booklists for S1 2017 by end Nov, so if you’re 99% sure you’re going there, can call and ask the bookshop before posting day and settle all this before posting day.
Orientation is separate, usually conducted only after school officially re-opens. By then, your dc should already have his uniform and books for Sec 1.
(based on my ds’ experience - he took PSLE in 2013. I think posting results for that year were released on a Friday morning, and Reporting was on a Monday, and I went to buy all the stuff before Monday hence avoiding the queue). -

If you intend to travel with your PSLE graduate kid, the best time to do so is now. Don't wait till November/December. Things will be less crowded for you and your family and you can come back refreshed and in time to handle all the admin things you have to do after PSLE results.
very true...now is indeed the best time to travel as it's off peak. but many parents would usually have younger kids who are facing SA2. -
Dear parents,
For some of you here, you would have known that I had dedicated some personal effort to collect resource books from parents that were deemed surplus, to pass them to some of my needy learners (As per my website, I have started to screen such learners via CHAS entitlement, to avoid cases of cheating). Another exercise that i conducted was the PSLE results appeal assistance, whereby parents called me to seek assistance on how best to write in to schools. For the latter, I will be starting again once the PSLE posting results are released at the end of the year.
For this year, I am starting the the books collection exercise again. I will like to urge parents to put their surplus resources into charitable uses such as donating them, or you may want to consider passing them to me while I offer academic assistance to the less privileged.
Please feel free to drop me an email below, if you do have such resources to release.
Many thanks!
Regards,
Eric

if the posting results are released via sms on friday, it is indeed a good idea to get everything on that same day or perhaps some from popular and avoid the mad rush on reporting day. will remember this. thanks. -
It won’t be on Friday this year as the 21st is a Wednesday so it will be mid-week.

Hi all, my dd just received the handbook for choosing secondary school.
I’m just wondering, since the COP indicated for the schools are based on last year, how do I go about choosing the schools? What is the buffer I should apply to my child’s actual aggregate? I recall reading a parent’s comment that during the year her child took PSLE, she did not apply for the school she really wanted to, which was Nanyang Girls, but turned out that year, the COP was a few points lower than the previous year’s.
Anyone who has gone through this can advise?
Thanks in advance. -
