I have 2 kids DSA-ed into Sec 1 next years through sports. Just share my experience.

Did not sign them up for any preparatory course. However, we did run through with them the possible DSA questions - all from the parents in KS forum and other friends.

The whole process is very taxing for both parents and child. However, the end results is worthwhile.

It is important to visit the schools, talk to the parents and students of the schools. Understand your kinds strength and weaknesses, support them throughout the whole process.

Remember to take note of the various tests date like GAT (in JUn/Jul), check the school requirements (some need GAT and some do not, they may conduct their own tests etc). I track it with my own spreadsheet πŸ™‚

      Hope the above helps.

          Hi What The,

No. We were targeting for the girl and the boy to DSA into the Bulit Timah campus across the bridge. However, things did not turn out as planned. LOL

Does anyone know if DSA for dance need GAT test? And what would be the average results for p5 and SA1 p6 before it is worth to try for DSA?

                      Hi,

Q:Does anyone know if DSA for dance need GAT test?
A: Generally yes. Though different schools may have different policies. It all depends on the individual schools. You can call the schools to confirm.

Q: And what would be the average results for p5 and SA1 p6 before it is worth to try for DSA?
A: Hmmm... I know RI and RGS will look at the P5 and P6 results.

                      Good luck to your child!!

Based on my understanding, the need for GAT is dependent on schools. Some schools require GAT, others do not. So if the school you applied DSA needs GAT, it doesn't matter whether it is sports, academics, dance or whatsoever. Only exception is GEP students or mainstream students with very excellent results which will be informed by the schools that they are exempted from GAT.

Usually, average results for DSA sports is 75% and that of practising arts (e.g. choir, dance, orchestra) is 80% but it really depends on the competition you are up against.
