My DS will be joining RI Year 1 next year.

May I know what is typically covered during the Year 1 Reporting Day in Dec? Any important talks?

Any advice what we should do if my DS cannot report on that day? e.g., purchase of school uniforms? textbooks, …

We will be going overseas and may not make it on time to come back by the Reporting Day (22 Dec). Would really appreciate your advice so that we can do the necessary preparation before we depart, especially getting ready the things necessary for Year 1 before school reopens next year.

Do check with the school if you need to send a proxy to register on your behalf. If not, they may wonder if you are actually taking up the place. There is a proxy form and the list of documents on the MOE website. Your proxy can register and collect the paperwork, but you can get the books, uniforms, submit the forms etc later.

Can I check with you another thing, may I know how is the Sec 1 class allocation done in RI? Is it according to PSLE results?

Hi Blue Dolphine,

For the current year, 1A is the DSA Sports class, while classes I - M comprised mainly of geppers. The rest would be allocated classes B to H. Within my son's class, the PSLE scores varied, nothing to indicate how the class allocation was done.

I'm not sure if the above would still apply to 2017 Y1s.

A pity that they shorten the duration of camp.

If things remain the same, your ds can still look forward to CCA camp. Some of the CCA camps are held as early as during the Term 1 break.
