Hi bluemom, you can check out the syllabus for HCL and CL from SEAB website which outline the assessment criteria and scope of coverage.

        http://www.seab.gov.sg/pages/nationalExaminations/GOL/School_Candidates/2017_GCE_O.asp

I know the assessment criteria differs for HCL and CL as I was doing a similar comparison last year when trying to decide whether my DS should opt for HCL.

Moreover, if your child is in an IP school, the syllabus for HCL will vary from school to school.

        Hope the above helps.

Just to check, is it difficult to board a train from bishan , heading towards Dover in the morning during a school day?

          It's horrible esp at jurong

Bishan to Dover don't have to go via Jurong.
Circle line to Buena Vista and EW line to Dover. Very doable.

            Hi

Like to chk if can appeal to sch of lower choice ranking, if posted to one of higher choice ranking. Eg. If posted to sch of choice no.3, can appeal to sch of choice no.4, assuming 4’s COP is lower than no.3’s.

Just curious why you didn't place the school as your 3rd choice then?
Yes, can appeal since you meet the COP but subject to availability of places in the seats.

DD keep commenting that a lot of her frens going to sch choice no.4, tho’ I convinced her that she would make new frens if posted to sch choice no.3. In case when posting results out that she really feels miserable as one & only in a new sch.

Please note that even if you intend to appeal, you must still report to the school you are posted to on 22 December, 830am.
All the best to your DD!

If School 3 is indeed a \"better\" school to DD in terms of the distance, CCA available, culture etc, other than the number of friends she already knows, I think it is worth giving the school and your DD a chance. Frankly, how many of our good friends are from Primary School? And kids do make friends very easily.

                    Hi

From various unofficial sources, it seems that the cohort as a whole this year generally performed better than last year.
This is an indication that the COP might go up for top schools?
                    2016 RGS COP is 260.
What is the chance for the score of 261 getting into it this time?

I am neither god nor have link to any unofficial source, thus, would not be able to guess the 2016 COP for RGS. However, based on information that has been shared on kiasuparents website, I believe the performance of the 2016 PSLE cohort is similar to the 2015 PSLE cohort with the same highest t-score, the same EESIS cutoff and the same top 10% cutoff at 252. One thing I am sure is that the COP is dependent on the school's popularity and the available vacancy. The 2016 cohort is smaller as compared to 2015, 38,808 students versus 39,286 students. As such there are likely to be lesser number of students with t-score of 260 and above this year. However, will the school be reducing her intake? If the traditionally popular schools are to maintain their intake, will we be seeing more merging of less popular schools? I think one important info that you may like to obtain from your unofficial (informal) source is the 2016 intake for RGS. I remembered reading from the DSA thread that RGS started to issue waitlist for DSA candidates this year, this would definitely affect the vacancy available for S1 posting. Popularity is another factor that nobody can predict!
