Isnt it better if the bank can offer better interest rate than cheap gift?

With this year’s pathetic interest rates, will you all still do a FD placement?

The question, in reply to your question, do you have other better use of your $$$?

If you are going to keep the $$$ in a biscuit tin and hide it under the bed, the FD would still be a better option, interest rates notwithstanding.

i am curious, do u guys not want to place it in stocks instead? not those penny speculation stocks.
but like stocks for long run.
like Strait times index (basket of stocks)

been thinking about it coz Fixed deposits giving me very low returns[/quote]All want high return but not all can stomach the high risk associated
Each pdt has its role to play for diff pple

                      Anyone into Structured Deposits?

I was at MB today and the lady told me of a new product coming out on 1 Feb.
5 yr structured deposit. The last offering was 2.6%. Cash out interest every 6 mths.
This is last offering. The interest rate for the new series will be known 1st Feb.
                      http://info.maybank2u.com.sg/personal/i ... posit.aspx

BTW, I am not working for MB. I want to know how SDs compare with FDs.

I bought a 5-yr structured deposit from Maybank in 2013. The interest rate then was much higher than any FD; while the FD interest rate in 2013 was ard 1.28% pa (if i rem correctly), the Maybank product was offering a fixed 1.88% pa with 100% principal guaranteed if held till maturity (5th year).

Looking back, can only say that it was a decent deal, the interest I earn would be that for a FD continuously renewed less the hassle.

Retrieved the above post dated 26 Jan 2016

Previously I shared placing some money in Maybank's 5yr structured deposit in 2013 with an annual interest rate of 1.88%. Back then in 2013, most of the banks were offering around 1.28% pa for fixed deposits. In 2016, where FD rates were decent (and banks giving out free abalones), I thought interest would cross 2% pa in 2017 but it actually slided. So my Maybank 1.88% pa actually gives me a decent return and set to mature next year.

A few days back, I saw a new Maybank structured deposit promo, with 1st year interest rate starting at 2.08%pa. Over the 5-year period, the effective annual interest rate is 2.3073% pa. Right now, with FD interest rates hovering around 1.28% pa, this seems like a decent deal. Compared this to the one I bought previously (at 1.88% pa), when FD was also hovering at 1.28%, the current rate of 2.3073% pa is higher and looks attractive.

I am not affiliated with Maybank and just thought to share this new offering here.

                        hi lee_yl,

Do you know if this has to be fresh funds? So happen I have a FD from Maybank that just expired, so not sure if I can transfer the funds to this structured deposit.

                        Thanks.
