So did your DD manage to get in?Sorry not sure if I can post it here. I need urgent advise.
NYPS girl PSLE score 248 + 2, get into NYGH? Anyone can confirm? (COP NYPS girl is 250)
Check with the principal that must put it as first choice. Is it true that all NYPS girl 250 and above will get in, and the remaining will be non-NYPS girl?
Thank you very much! -

Not all who got 264 wil get in. I have heard one case with 264 failed to get in. Nygh website never show the appeal procedure while rgs website shows detailed instructn on how to submit online appeal. I guess nygh has no more vacancy, so no need to talk abt appeal procedure. -
I forgot to ask the school today. Is the third Language results included in the year end GPA (is this the right term to call it?) computation?
What are the implications of taking on the third language? -
Anyone from nygh or parents can share how is the culture and environment like? Being a sap school, do they always do stuffs like calligraphy etc?
TIA -

The school uses Mean Subject Grade (MSG), not GPA.I forgot to ask the school today. Is the third Language results included in the year end GPA (is this the right term to call it?) computation?

It's similar to the O level grading system, whereby A1 = 75 marks and above, = 1 point.
Different subjects carry different weightage though.
Dd did not choose to take up a third language but if i remember correctly, 3rd language will be included in the computation only if it helps to improve the MSG and it will not be computed if it does not improve the MSG. You may want to reconfirm with the school to be sure.
I do not know much about the implications of taking a 3rd language but just want to share something about the subject combination in upper sec.
As you probably know, 3rd language is considered an additional subject.
To manage work load and stress level, students are generally allowed to take only 1 additional subject.
This year, school introduced advanced literature as an optional additional subject for triple science students in 2017. (i.e those who opt for this subject combi will take standard triple science subjects plus advanced literature)
It is not offered to those who are already taking additional subject.
As such, a student may have to make a choice between 3rd language and advanced literature in Sec 3 if she happens to be keen on both subjects and is taking triple sciences. -
May I ask:
Advanced literature refers to advanced English Literature? Any pre-requisite / criteria before students can select for this option? For example, results for sec 2 literature must be above 75 marks? Does that mean the triple science student can take 2 humanities subject now - normal and advanced literature? Thanks. -
Hi FantasyLandDreams,
Advanced Literature in NYGH refers to Advanced English Literature. The criteria for Triple Science + Advance Literature is Science B3 and above, MSG 3 and below as well as not taking an additional subject already. If she would like to take up this combination and is taking Third Language already, she will be required to choose between Advanced Literature and Third Language.
However, Double Science + Advanced Literature has no criteria unlike the previous combination, as Advanced Literature here is not taken as an additional subject.
For both options mention above, Integrated Humanities is a compulsory subject. Therefore, if a student chooses the option Triple Science + Advanced Literature, she would be taking two humanities, Advanced Literature and Integrated Humanities.
Hope this helps!FantasyLandDreams:

Just to add on, the students do not take literature separately in lower sec.
It is included as part of language arts in lower sec and for the IP students, in upper sec as well.
So technically, when a student takes advanced literature in upper sec, she will be covering both literature and advanced literature. (Plus integrated humanities). There are separate literature texts used for LA and advanced literature.
There isn't any criteria on LA grade to take up advanced literature, a pass in LA is one of the promotion criteria though.
