Ah yes. Actually, IP students do not take Social Studies. As far as I know, they take "pure" humanaties. They need to acheive a pass in Passion Pursuit, and a B for subject average. Usually they let all Year 1 IP students promote, those that fall short of the requirements severely (very) will sit for another test.

They do take social studies but finish the course in year 1. Cath high will let you retake the exam if you fall short in the final exam

Actually the IP students take World Readiness Programme (WRP ) instead of Social Studies.

True, the pioneer batch of IP students ( current Yr 5 ) did Social Studies in their first year but switched to WRP from Yr 2 onwards. The subsequent IP students have since been taking WRP from Yr 1 and I believe will continue into their JC years at EJC as part of the student development curriculum. 🆒 Passion Pursuit (PP) is another student development programme in which at least a pass grade is required for promotion. 😓

Any idea how does Cath High group the students in Yr 1? As in according to DSA & non-DSA, or according to PSLE scores?

                  Hi Everybody!

I attended the Edusave Awards presentation with my boys this morning. MP Josephine Teo spoke about the new Bishan North CC before the ceremony and it will be located next to Eunoia JC. She mentioned that the facilities will also serve the JC, not too sure what she meant by that. The Eunoia JC canteen will be located below the stadium.

She also flashed four slides. Sharing them here......

Great! Congratulations to you! I think you should post it in the Eunoia JC thread if you haven’t.

To the DreamGear, IP students don’t take SS. KidCat, WRP is not really SS. They do take on modules like Cooking and Philosophy, according to my DS. But there is a large part of WRP that requires them to understand Political Systems of other countries and Contemporary China.

To the poster above, There are two kinds of CCA - First and Second. First is compulsory while second is a supplement, purely on a voluntary basis. Dance and Drama are first CCAs. Others include Uniformed Groups (ie. scouts, NPCC, NCC, SJAB), Performing Arts (ie. Dance, CO, Symphony Band) and Sports (ie. Basketball, Wushu, Volleyball, Track and Field, Tennis, Floorball) Clubs and Societies are not, however. CCAs like the ICT Club are considered as a second CCA.

There is one class specially for DSA (talents other than academics) students. This is usually known as the \"Sports Class\", though there may be students who got in because of other reasons, like aptitude in music. I am not sure about the groupings of students who suceeded in DSA for academics.

Thank you for your correction, i must be out of touch with times already

Actually every schools be it IP or O or N levels, will have the social studies component, be it named as SS or in other branding.. as it is part of the National Education initiative.

Anyway its time to leave the thread and move on as my boy will be officially graduating from the school this coming wed.

Best wishes to everyone in CHS and have an enjoyable journey with your boy!
