Maths banding and Chinese banding for sec 4, anyone knows the exact arrangement?

        Hi all,

        Pardon me for sidetrack:

Anybody would like to have extra NJC senior high school uniforms? Eg. for boarding school?

I would like to give away my DS NJC senior high uniforms. Realise that I’m still keeping them for years while packing wardrobe. However u need to change the buttons as some have changed colours:

        Shirts: size 14 (3 pcs)
        Long pants : size 28 (2 pairs), size 29 (2 pairs)

        Self-collect in Bishan.

        Pls PM me, thanks.

          Jennifer:
Although the school discourages tuition, we have to accept the fact that the teacher might not be able to reach out to our child. In such times, we need to seek external help.

Last year my younger boy (who was in sec3) did not fare well during the mid year assessment. The maths teacher advised me that my boy was attentive n participative in class, yet seemed to be stressed out under exam conditions. He recommended my boy to attend conso sesssions which was conducted once a week. During the sessions, the students did practices and the teacher would go through the questions as a group.

At the end year assessment, my boy still did not do well despite going to the conso lessons.

My elder boy had some NS leave to clear towards the end of the year. So I got him to coach the younger brother. The conclusion was the younger brother seems not fully grasp the concepts n does not know how to recognize the question n the applicable solution. These issues can be resolved by more practices.

My recommendation would be to get a private tutor to go over the concepts, not to teach in advance, and for the child to do practices on his own.

Maths proficiency really hinges on constant practices, not short cuts to mastery.
My gal in jh2 , also facing the same situation. Weak foundation and the weekly consol lesson din help much. I didn't know jh2 is being banded for math . I suspect she falls into the weaker grp. So I have no choice but to send her to tuition to brush up the concepts.

Hi, I was surprised at the Maths banding too. What I have understood is that Classes A & B (for instance JH20A, JH20B) are combined, then divided into 2 distinct Maths groupings following Greek alphabets (alpha...). Dc's case, the Advanced Maths/top scorers/60+% come into a grouping. Separate Maths teachers are assigned to these different groups.

Any parents know if all along the JH3 and JH4 are taking both geo n history? Aft the parent briefg yrstrday, we were told JH2 this year will get to choose either geo or history when they go JH3. Is this something new or has been like this all the while?

As far as I know (like 2 years - lol), only students taking Advanced Humanities will take both geo n history in JH3 and 4, and that number is very small (less than one class). Most students will take either geo or history when they go JH3. Those students taking Advanced LA will take Literature and geo/history. Again, very small number. Usually ALA and AH students will be grouped together in one class, and they take 2 sciences, while the rest of the students take 3 sciences.
