Hi champion, it'll be great if you can let her gal learn swimming during weekend on top of her school lesson be it private or public pool. It is for her own safety. I'm was worried when I knew my gal will have compulsory swimming lesson next year as she has probia with water and thus, I let her learn swimming now so that I can see her swim and make sure everything is alright . She loves swimming now and looking forward every week and no longer fearful of water. I'm not sure abt the ratio (coach vs students) if she is to learn in school so better equip her beforehand, it's for our own child's safety sake.... just my personal view.
Hi ALL,
Thanks for all for your advice/posts/contribution...Indeed, after reading I think I should sign her up for private swimming lesson on weekends on top of the school lesson.
Can anyone recommend your child's coach or any swim coach that you know of? We are staying at Jurong West area and would prefer to go to either Jurong East or Jurong West Swim Complex.
Once again, thanks all for your advice; really appreciate :thankyou: -

Once again, thanks all for your advice; really appreciate :thankyou:[/quote]Hope someone can recommend you a good coach at Jurong area. If not, actually you can juz bring your gal to JW swim complex this sat to pick one  , there are many swim coach in the public pool on weekends and you can observe how they handle the children and then talk to them after their lesson (some may have back to back classes), they shld be able to place your gal in the appropriate class with other beginners. -
Hi Champion,
From what I understands that some school do have swimming lesson when they are either in P2 or P3. Heard that the ratio is such group could be like 1:15.
Therefore I'm now letting my DS to taske up swimming so that next time he can be better equipped. 1:15 is really no joke, I don't think 小飞鱼 would be able to rescue efficiently.
You may want to consider letting your gal to learn outside with 1:1 or small group swimming. -

A child can start learning swimming when he is a few months old. However, it is quite a specialised field and most of the coaches do not coach children this young. If you want, I have a contact of a coach who do coach babies.
If you bring your son to swim on your own, try to keep the sessions short. It should be around 15min to half an hour depending on the weather conditions. Eitherwise he might fall sick easily. The water should also be warm but if you go to the public pool, it is a factor that you can't control thus keep the sessions short -
Hi Bubblesnsplashes,
What is the minimum age for the baby to take up swimming. -

Hi Monster Mummy,Hi Bubblesnsplashes,
What is the minimum age for the baby to take up swimming.
The minimum age can be from 3 months old onward, depending on how well the baby is able to hold up its head. It also depend on how comfortable the instructor is. Different instructor might have different minimum age. -
hi, just wonder how the instructor communicate with my bb?

It is usually through the actions and behaviour of the instructor and parents. The baby might not understand exactly what the words mean initially. However, through repeat actions, the baby will come to expect and learn what the words mean. Babies can also understand tone of the voices. Babies can also feel through their senses. Thus, non-verbal communication will be an important element.
