2016 O levels (Kids born in 2000)
-
after o level results, another 2 weeks wait for posting results…then it will be the start of a new journey.
hopefully son will mature during this period and is clear about what course he wants to take in U after his A levels…but it will have to wait till after his NS. -
Anyone here knows when the o levels cert will be ready for collection from school?

Janet, no rush. My DS till now doesn't know what he wants to do after A levels n NS.
Boys generally take a longer time to mature n make decisions. -

Yes, Janet, no rush - he's got 3 yrs plus NS. Some guys I know even changed their minds and re-applied for a different course during their NS years. Boys have that advantage of time. Girls decide faster partly because their deadline is earlier; my JC2 daughter still has no idea what she wants to do (although she is finally narrowing things down a bit) and she will really be running out of time soon.

my boy is undecided what course he likes in poly, which is why we feel that doing A levels is a better choice than poly...at least there are more avenues. -

i thought GIRLS have advantage of time since they do not have to serve NS.

now that you have explained your daughter's situation, i have a better understanding. thank you. -
You may want to give it further consideration re: Poly or JC because statistically only 40% (my time only 10-20%) of A level students progress to universities. If you think your son may not fall into the 40%, then perhaps doing Poly may be a better option since it will be considered as a tertiary education (undecided then don’t do specialized courses, go for general ones like Biz Adm? etc)
Regarding Commerce or Science streams, I thought Commerce stream has been scrapped? Only left Arts or Science? Anyway, to do well in Science stream, M (A and E) and S (preferably pure sciences during O) must be very good.
I confess I have no experience in this area since my kids are still young and my knowledge could be outdated but I am coming from the perspective of a concerned parent (like what I would do if met with same dilemma). -
