My 3 DDs like to watch all kind of nonsense youtubes....I just hope they don't grow up aspiring to be youtube stars or social media stars....

I still prefer a proper degree at their disposal regardless what career path they take next time.
      :hi5:

If they are going to be actors or bakers, why would they need a proper degree first?
How would an Engineering degree makes them better actors or bakers? Wouldn't the School of Hard Knocks make them better actors and bakers? :?

If they aspire to be actors or bakers, just make sure that they are going to be the best in the field. If a kid wants to be a YouTube star, I would want him/her to be better than PewDiePie or Lilly Singh.

Who is PDP and LS? Never heard of…lol

Anyway I embrace social media and all the new business ideas/careers that can come out of it but whatever the kids do, there must be some training on that business acumen or higher-order analytical skills that should be derived from a university education (aka training how to be a better decision maker).

Err... you need to step into the world of people age < 25 more often :rotflmao:

When there's a Wikipedia article on you, you know you have already made it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PewDiePie and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilly_Singh 😂

I agree! Back to MI, they run a lot of good programmes and events over the 3 yrs to help students explore entrepreneurship, identify their skills and interests etc. It's a very supportive school, and they know that the majority of their students will not get into local university, so they try to point them to other avenues to careers that suit them.

I am of the opinion that business acumen and decision making is learned and honed through experience, not from uni.

I agree with this too. Not all graduates have business sense (take me for eg), and many good business people don't have degrees.

i enquired about uniforms. one of the ladies in MI general office advised me over the phone to let son attend the orientation before deciding whether to continue with his choice at MI or he can still opt for poly.

Yes, that's quite a good suggestion. Unless you're really very sure, of course. I bought my daughter's uniforms as soon as I knew she got in as I knew we wouldn't change. There are quite a few MI students who leave during the initial weeks, especially those who have appealed to polys. And some leave during and at the end of the 1st year too - mainly those who decide that A levels is not for them and apply to poly or get a job. A few go overseas.

But if you're very sure, the uniform vendor was (and probably hasn't changed) Yangtze Kiang Tailor at Teck Whye Lane.
