And also some of us are from even older eras? Dredging my memory, in my time, the only bonus points were for affiliation, and/or the \"first 3 mths\". We got a grade for CCA (A1, A2 etc) but no bonus points, and HMT hadn't been introduced.

OK...I'm slightly...only slightly...younger...we had SAP school so there was CL1 (before being called HMT).
What did they gain out of taking CL1? (this question took me >30 yrs to ask!!)

Yes, DH was exempted from Chinese during his JC days as he was from a pioneer SAP school.

You may not be aware that this year, it seems like MOE has moderated the O level results such that fewer pupils had gotten net L1R5 of 2 or 3 points. I may be wrong but the average raw L1R5 seems to be 'worse' than the previous years. Just my 2 cents worth, I am of the opinion that MOE is skewed towards adjusting the average L1R5 higher to ensure that those who opted for top JCs are able to cope with their pace as they comprise mainly of IP pupils who were the top 3% of the PSLE cohort.

It shouldn't make a difference really, as the same number (proportion) of JAE students will go to the JCs. The COPs are determined by the last student who gets in, not by MOE. Assuming that this year's students have the same ability profile as previous years', then the student who get into the JCs should have the same ability levels.

With the introduction of EJC IP in Y2K, has MOE increased its IP intake to include the top 11% or 12%? If so, we can't conclude that the same number of JAE students will go to the same JCs.

Sorry, too many numbers confuse me! To my non-mathematical mind, it seems that if there is a new JC, even though it may take in many students from its IP feeder schools, the JAE places will still increase overall. And if the \"top\" students are more spread out, then there should be a better chance for JAE students to get their pick of JCs?

Anyway, having more JCs in the top band is a good thing - I find the way people try to rank JCs with very similar intakes is rather silly. Sure, there is a great difference between COP4 and COP15, but between COP4 and COP5?

Yes . It all depends on the Nos intake too . School that have less ip students tend to have more JAE students intake And the cop will be slightly higher

I think CL1 students were exempted from taking Chinese at the AO Level if they score above a certain grade.[/quote]The CL1 grade can be used to replace EL1 in the calculation of L1B4 for entering post-secondary institution. In the initial years of implementing the SAP scheme, only students in the SAP schools (Special Stream) are allowed to offer both languages at the L1 level. All other students were to offer either EL1 or CL1.

My DS appeal to neighbourhood JC. I accompany him yesterday morning to appeal and this afternoon they gave him transfer form which my DS had to bring to posted school to acknowledge the transfer. He will be in the new school by Monday Good luck for those who appeal too.
