      Janet,

You may consider letting your DS retake some of the O-level subjects as a private candidate while attending MI in parallel. By early next year, he could then opt to continue MI or apply his course of interest with his new results.

If I am not wrong, her DS's result is enough to apply for his course of interest in poly although not in their preferred poly. The problem was they put MI as the first 2 choices.

you are right ngl...we are totally not clear which choices to put first. that IS the biggest problem. on one hand, we worry he doesn't make it to the poly course of his choice and end up doing something not of his interest. so MI was kind of confirmed he would get a place...but it just didn't occur to us that GP and MT will be killer subjects.

I don't know if I am right or wrong to say this but if your DS is finally stuck in MI, just aim to pass the 2 subjects, no need to get high grades. During these 3 years, just try to find the best strategic methods to tackle them. Even my DD had to strategize for her A levels even though she is strong in English n now I have to force my DS to do the same. So dont be frightened.

If there is a will, there is a way!!!

        All the best!!!!

if he is really stuck in MI, then we would have to find ways to tackle those 2 subjects. with many helpful parents like yourself in KSP, you will see more :?: from me.

For MT, maybe it won’t be as bad as feared?

The minimum MT requirement for entry to local uni (for students taking A level) can also be in the form of
            1) S grade (40 to 44%) in H1 Chinese
            2) pass in MTL "B" syllabus

Those who have passed HMT will not be taking A level Chinese, so the bell curve may be kinder to other students who are taking it?

I heard H1 Chinese is not that bad. Not as difficult as HMT at O level. Don't know true or not.

That's true. It isn't as difficult. And also those who are strong in Chinese would already have cleared it at HMT O level. So you're not competing against them for grades.

Just paying devil’s advocate. Will he be overwhelmed studying for both syllabus at the same time? I presume there will be CCA at MI as well.

Maths need a lot of practice to do well.

retaking some o level subjects will be tough...as it is, he is lost where math is concerned. i don't think he can cope if he has to retake. yes, there is CCA to take as well.
