IP students may not have the experience of taking O levels, but in general they have to maintain a certain level of academic standard in their internal exams (to stay in the IP track). This also explains why many IP students continue tuition even though there is no O levels.

Hence, when entering JC, their background knowledge will usually be as strong as (or perhaps even stronger due to extra syllabus) as those in the O level track.

DD will start her JC journey next month.

        Any advice are welcome. TIA!!

        1. About 6 hours.
        2. Yes. But there are so many other activities going on it's not easy to keep up.
        3. Performing very well in O levels does not mean you'll do well in A levels. But if you work very hard, I don't see why not?

        4. If your child is entering JC this year, the ten year series may not be so relevant because of the change in syllabus?
**may i know what are the jc subjects that hv syllabus changes?**

        5. Take the cue from your child. Tuition isn't necessary. Depending on the JC, some do have pull out classes for those who aren't performing that well and need the extra coaching. Those are useful.

It's tempting to over-generalise the IP population and the JAE population. They are all individuals and some do better than others. One thing the schools do point out though is that for students who don't do well, it is more than likely to do with other circumstances, such as emotional issues, or problems at home or elsewhere etc leading to them not being able to perform to the best of their ability in the A levels.

          :goodpost: totally agree!

Look on the SEAB website. It will indicate if their is a new syllabus and when it's being introduced.

              Hi, regarding PW at JC1.

              1) What is the usual timeframe ( start, end, presentation, result announcement dates )
              2) What are the possible PW topics ( past examples )
              3) How many students per group?
              4) Is the grading based on group or individual performance?

              Thanks.

Written report and presentation is around Oct-Nov, results out the following year March(?). Can't remember the starting part - lots of to-ing and fro-ing, and the teachers will prompt them.

                  2) What are the possible PW topics ( past examples )
                  No idea.

                  4-5.

To add on to Slmkhoo's post, the school will post the timelines for each segment on the school portal so you can check it out (this is what my DS School did) but not sure if it's the same practice for all JCs.

Last year's PW topic was Achievements or Expansion so u have to choose one.

Grading will be divided into 2 parts - group and individual so it's good to give equal importance to both. But I am not sure which carries more weightage-need to ask my DS. Or maybe other parents can remember.

                      Hope info helps.

Based on the PW handouts given to the parents by my DD’s JC last year, the components and the weightage of each components are as follow:

                        1. Written Report (WR) ~3000 words: Individual (0%), Group (40%) Soft copy deadline mid September, hard copy deadline 3rd week of October
                        2. Oral Presentation (OP): Individual (30%), Group (10%) Early Nov after A level MT exam
                        3. Group Project File (GPF): Individual (20%), Group (0%)
                        a) Preliminary Ideas (PI) Deadline 3rd week of April
                        b) Group Project Proposal (GPP) (not graded)
                        c) Evaluation of Materials (EOM) ~600 words. Deadline early August
                        d) Insights & Reflections (I&R) submit after OP exams

                        Total : Individual (50%), Group (50%)

                        Hope the info helps.
