      Kiasu Talk:
Query for current 2016 P1 parents:

Has the school revise the way they teach chinese: Revise to 先认字后拼英 OR retain the hanyu pinyin then learn chinese characters?
MOE's new syllabus includes both 认字 concurrent with the learning of HYPY now.

        Hi,

A bit of background. My son only just recently settled into CHSP. (he was mostly on leave of absence before that) He was never around in SG much before this year so we have no previous experience with CCA. I noticed that my friend’s kids in Ai Tong have a very free and easy CCA system. Just join something and have fun!

OTOH, when I tried to choose a CCA for my son, I was told they will need to do screening etc! I was like… "huh?" LOL
Are they truly only picking those with particular talent or experience in specific CCAs? So you can’t join a CCA at a recreational level anymore?

        Thank you!

Yeah, in CHS, they are identified for CCAs - just let your son go for the screening! No harm! I heard for example for scounts, they let them join for a few trial sessions and are selected after that , bc the demand is higher than the spaces they have. So some parents just let their boys go for some fun for the 1st few trial sessions.

Is CCA complusory for the children? Can we choose not to have any CCA?

Which student care near CHS is gd? Any recommendation?

Not compulsory for CCA for primary sch kids. But it will always be good to join. And if they like the CCA, they can continue to do the CCA in secondary. Cos in secondary, the CCA selection criteria is even more stringent than current.

I know there was a boy in my ds' class in p1 that had a shadow teacher. Didn't have by p2.
