      janet88:
Having loads of hw before ca1 can be frustrating because there is no time to squeeze in revision. ...

June onwards, do monitor your kids for stress. Don't let them get burnt out.

For English, comprehension passages can be real tough...to the point of :siao: the real picture is psle...don't get overwhelmed by CA and SA.

      Agree with you Janet.

This year started scaling down my monitoring time. I let DS manage his own. Thankfully he was deemed capable enuf for school not to 'select' him for supp classes for English & Science. Strange thing is his Math is just as good but not exempted. Overall less stress than last year.

Truly agree if we leave to teachers, most just wanna get job done. We've gotta let our kids practice targeted exam papers, mark & help them u'stand concept if not yet grasp or teach them techniques. Better do ourselves so we know our kids' level then let them pass w/o learning correct answering techniques.

In fact, alr cut down some tuition & intend to scale down on all tuition by July. Practice more PSLE papers & find time for them to rest so minimize stress buildup. No good if our kids go into exams with panic attacks.

teachers just give paper after paper...standard practice every year. do they mark? NO. do they explain the mistakes, no. so if the students do paper after paper and they encounter similar questions, the same mistakes will be made.

near august, the build up will get worse because there is PSLE oral to prepare for and prelims as well. so we really have to watch out for our kids' mental condition. last year when daughter sat for PSLE, i cut off science tuition in march and hubby coached her.

CA is over. march holidays (if no supplementary lessons) will be spent revising and possibly teach ahead.

it's rather strange isn't it? from p3 to p5, teachers insist on models for math...but at p6, there is no such restriction. still remember how kids' teachers frown when they don't see model working and during PTMs, literally give us parents a lesson

At P6, my personal belief is not to waste time on school holidays programmed unless your child hv plenty of time to kill.

Truth is, P6 will hv loads of exam paper practices to familiarize with exam format & build momentum. It’s a year to consolidate learning and close gaps in areas where child is still weak and brush up ready for PSLE, which is only abt 6-7 months to go.

Not sure what other parents’ views are.
