You still need a decent score, hopefully over 40, to get into a decent overseas university to get a decent job. Unless you intend to take over your dad's business la.
And then, go for tuition while at university? After that, get tuition for how to do job? :faint:

Why is there a need for the P to say otherwise? Mathematically, the secondary school intake is much bigger than the primary school intake, by P6, my dd1's cohort only left with roughly 190 girls, and historically the top 2 classes qualify for IP, so only left with 3 classes potentially taking O-levels with the affiliated sec school, so unlikely to breach the 20% quota.
I can't imagine with such a low COP of 220, the P of SCGS said they won't be affected after the 20% non-affiliate policy is enforced. Whatever's happened to those who hit 220 - 249 all these years? A vast majority left SCGS for other sec schools?Imp75:

What? No competition at U? Probably would have done just as well without tuition at A-levels.Well, I used to think that these children won't be able to cope without tuition later on in life but it is not true. Personally I know of 2 A-level students who had tuition for ALL A-level subjects but did not receive any tuition at Uni level and went on to earn 1st Class Hons and 2nd class upper Hons respectively.
It is not about the intellectual ability of the individual student but rather, competition (bell-shaped curve). -

during the short period in MI, son was struggling with GP and MT. if he had not been given a place in SP, i dread to think how he will pass GP. sorry :offtopic:

No la, it is not the norm. Only a small group think it is worth spending that kind of money. -
I dunno leh. I agree to spend 3 to 5 k/mth to just do catch up maybe the child just not cut out for it. but to spend same amt to be at top then different story la.

honestly I would spend that $3-$5k teaching my kids how to invest from a young age!!
My kids had minimal tuition and I don’t foresee any tuition at all beyond PSLE.
The $ I spent on non-acad (sports and arts) far surpasses the acad portion of their primary education. -
