I tend to agree that holiday programs don't do much for kids, except for younger P1 & 2s to help fire their interests. It's really paying high price for babysitting.


I agree P6 shld be consolidation time. Mark out areas of achievements & focus on improving areas of weaknesses. It's more a time to bring them to awareness of P6 format & a year of PSLE exam paper practicing & build momentum.

Encourage our kids to persevere ano 6-7 months & then R&R or celebration of effort comes after 1st week of Oct.

I agree. Son in Chinese enrichment for past five years. This year due to Maths olympaid training clashes with his Chinese class. Took the risk to drop his Chinese tuition this year. Thank God he did better than before!

Agreed from now till Oct is to zero in weak areas and improve in it.

At P6, my personal belief is not to waste time on school holidays programmed unless your child hv plenty of time to kill.


Truth is, P6 will hv loads of exam paper practices to familiarize with exam format & build momentum. It's a year to consolidate learning and close gaps in areas where child is still weak and brush up ready for PSLE, which is only abt 6-7 months to go.

Not sure what other parents' views are.

Seconding what other posters have said previously. If the child is at the point where he doesn't know what he doesn't know, then workshops and tuition classes are not going to help, because you need the benefit of time to suss out his/her weaknesses. However, if the child is hyper-motivated and knows his/her shortcomings, then that might be something to go on when considering supplementary classes.

Only signed up for TLL one subject. Materials seems good but teacher so so. dd2 said teacher surprisingly young. Haha, she's abit judgmental here, prefers mature teacher.
That March holiday class I forgot how long exactly, probably around 4 or 5 hours in total over 2 days period.

Never attended regular class at TLL so that was our one-time experience. dd2 didn't think it's worth the 'price' though

My boy used to attend Chinese Holiday Workshop only. Not entirely useful in long run. Rather spend my time going through my child’s weakness over the holiday.


Realized when I stopped some tuition and I teach him on my own, surprisingly my child scored better in his last CA1.

DS attended 2 years of TLL. The materials looks interesting & exciting, but not substantial for the fee we've been paying. In addition, as sleepy pointed out, the lot of teachers are all young and can't identify each child's weak areas to target guide diff individual child. I was going to pull DS out of TLL after 1 term, but he was so mersmerised by his young, sweet teacher in protest! Thankfully, she left to do her Masters & I got my chance to pull DS out of TLL. So, don't let hearsay mislead you & spend precious $$ for reputation/branding.

Sherman fr Academia assess DC & he was spot on in his area of weakness which I noticed DS hv not made breakthroughs. The materials are with depth and well worth coz Sherman delivers both the hardware (good learning materials & strengthen DS' english grounding).

DS improved his skill for S&T within one term. Now I'm more confident he is properly grounded to tackle PSLE. Fees so much less than TLL. Subj matter expert dedication was valuable to us for DS.

We went vacation on last week of October, after submitting DSA option online.
Then back in school during last week of term 4 for prize presentation.

Although school strongly discouraged travelling during school term :siam:
But airtickets cheaper leh

My kid was very lucky that their teacher "chiong" until the last day before PSLE. In the end, the class turned out amazing result for that subject. I thought that was a good learning for this thing call "perseverance". So I think if the kid doesn’t know what he doesn’t know at this point in time, which is March only, as parents we should still try to help… Don’t give up, don’t let it be. I think our help will make a difference. Don’t wait until PSLE is over then start to think mummy could have help you a bit more.
