I know a close relative in her mid forties who has no savings nor investments. Her only assets are cpf and hdb flat ( not fully paid) But, she has a car, a maid and her kids attend tuition. She goes for her hair treatment and manicure sessions. Sometime, life is really a matter of choice...

      Most people are like that..

      I cant fathom.
      Don't they feel insecure?

          I feel apprehensive with retirement.

I am not looking at building a portfolio to generate enough passive income to fund my daily expenses during retirement but merely saved enough to last till my end.

If I don't have something that generates income but only savings, I think I will feel scared. To see my savings account depleting day by day is like dripping blood, 😂

I used to be bothered if one day hubby gets retrenched. Now it doesn't really matter that much anymore cos with investments, it is as good as 3 ppl working but spending 1 income.. I dun like to be too lavish or provide the kids with too comfy living. Everything they need to work for.

dh now kopi O kosong. I most time kopi O kosong and other times add some fresh milk.

Hubby also switched to Kopi O Siew Dai and I add Anlene milk to my coffee...also hope I inherit my parents' good genes in health...exercise also important...

my mom looks ok seems to have quite good gene but my mil and sil not very good..the more dh got to take care of himself. He exercises more nowadays, monitoring his weight and eat more healthily now :xedfingers: at home, sugar and salt are all at minimum level. our choc cake really taste choc only. so the choc icing sugar frosting is really an indulgence. Each time, I replenish few teaspoon of the frosting from the Tupperware and put it into the icing gun (all in fridge) and when the girls took out a slice of cake to eat, they will pump the icing onto the cake and use the fork to slowly spread or to scoop the icing so that they can eat it together with the cake. Nowadays, can hear dds telling aww..the food is too sweet/salty when they eat outside food..of course for some of them..they really taste delicious. I think it is good to start them eat healthily when still young. hopefully the better eating habits follow them.

Save on small items is no use. Want to save need to save on big ticket items.

Nope. Her mum works in foodcourt as cleaner half a day I think. She supports her mum. Her mum just work to pass time.

my mum needs to go for knee replacement surgery next week on left leg…right leg done few years back. then dad has to go for angiogram. i dare not imagine how much is needed when we retire.

fortunately i am not one who likes to travel. car is necessary for hubby’s job but a simple toyota will do. younger one in secondary school…older one going poly. he will have to find his way to pay for uni fees.
we don’t like sweet stuff. coffee is minimal sugar.

My mom was at one stage has heel and knee difficulties. I bought those dried sea cucumber…probably as big as an arm. Mom soaked, changed water dunno how many times then cut them into pieces and packed individually kept inside freezer (could keep for quite some time) and slowly eat it. Now it is so expensive…I don’t have heart to buy already…I remembered something like $400 (10years ago) then but can yield quite a bit. My mom been drinking Yomeishu for many years before shifting to DOM for the about last 10 years or so. Buy from duty free shop much cheaper…in addition, she also bought some supplements from those MLM, so abit this and that, as my mom told me dunno due to which one, thank god, things look quite ok now.
