Same here. My daughter is sensitive to loud noise and bright lights, not smells. When there was very loud music, we taught her to cover her ears or use tissue to stuff her ears (when older, not when she was very young). For lights, she would ear a cap. We would try to leave before she got overwhelmed or find somewhere less disturbing for her, and she also got less sensitive with age. She is also sensitive to touch and doesn’t like to be hugged or picked up - that was more a problem when she was a toddler, since people don’t touch girls as much when they are older!

        Hi

My 2 years old don’t like glaring sun but he also refuse to wear cap.He doesn’t like anything on his head and don’t like to have water run over his eyes when shampooing .I noticed he also doesn’t like loud noise.
He want things to be tidy and put back at the same place or group. Like OCD type.

How do we let him gradually accept the external environment.

Gradual exposure. Try little and short periods. I would intentionally make things a little different now and again. You have to try to desensitise him.

WIth training and exposure, the child can improve over time. But the underlying lack of social understanding will always be there and will resurface every time a new type of situation arises. And because these kids do not learn social behaviour instinctively as other kids might, they will need more intentional teaching/training.

The natural instinct that tends toward rigidity doesn't change, but as the child grows up, he can to some extent use his mind to help him understand the need to be more flexible. He will need to be coached into doing this as it will probably not come naturally. But it will always have to be a more conscious effort for him, and he will probably always be more rigid than the norm.

Any good ABA therapy centre to recommend? I was thinking of trying out Autism STEP, but there are some rather negative comments about them on the Internet. How about Autism Partnership and Autism Recovery Network? Willing to pay a bit more if the quality is good.

Anyone can share the type of crunchy texture food you have tried with your child.

My daughter doesn't eat sticky food (eg peanut butter, glutinous rice etc) but has no problems with other foods.

Which foods won't your son eat? Are there many that cause difficulties? Try introducing a little and often, but don't force. If the foods are not common and there aren't too many of them, I wouldn't worry about them too much.
