I'll need to be ever ready from now on! Glad I stumbled over this forum! :rahrah: :thankyou:

Hi there! I'm currently debating (mostly with my parents--ha) about whether to take the risk of moving within 1km of ACSP. My son would be in Phase 2C so I know the chances of getting in are slim. I'm curious, for others who were--or know someone who was--in a similar situation, what happens if your child doesn't get into ACSP but is living in the viscinity? Does MOE assign you to one of the other schools with vacancies in the same district? *Will* there be vacancies in nearby schools? Where do most rejected ACSP applicants end up? Could they be sent to schools quite far away (my son is a SC)?
Thanks so much to anyone with any info you might be able to share!
ETA: If he doesn't get in and I put him on the waitlist to be transferred to ACSP, can this happen at any time (eg., mid-year, as early as P1/P2 even)? What sort of criteria does the school consider for younger transfer students, besides grades and CCAs? Does it make any difference that my brother went to ACS? Or that my daughter attends an affiliated Methodist school? Sorry for the endless questions!

Hi, you’ll probably face similar choices as we did: risk of being balloted out even within 1 km (past odds of getting in were not that bad) or consider options such as SJIJ which we eventually take for our son.
Have you considered ACSJ? Seems the odds of getting in under 2C within 1 km were better.
Should you not get into ACSP or J, there’s 2C Supp where you can apply to schools with vacancies nearby, ie you retain the ability to choose from the remaining available schools and - assuming no oversubscription- you can get your child into the school.
Exciting times, all the best! -
Hi sobaice, I have PM u

On a separate but related note, the recent MOE changes will force the ACS secondary schools to reserve 20% of their places for non-affiliated students…hence progression to ACS Barker is no longer guaranteed. Will this dampen the popularity of ACS Pri and ACS Junior at P1 registration? I’ll definitely be watching this year’s stats.

Hi, we will register our son this year for 2018 P1 intake.
We stay within 1km of both ACSP and ACSJ and will register under Phase 2C. Our son is Singapore citizen.
I understand that in 2016:-
(1) 24 Singapore Citizens within 1km at 2C balloting for 20 seats in ACSP; and
(2) 52 Singapore Citizens within 1km at Phase 2C balloting for 49 seats in ACSJ.
We are not sure how to decide whether to choose to register ACSP or ACSJ (we will be very happy if we can get in either one).
Would be grateful if anyone can share how to monitor the application numbers and make a choice between aiming at ACSP or ACSJ.
Many thanks! -

Hi, just to share, I understand that in 2016, all 25 Singapore Citizens within 1km are in without needing to ballot at phase 2C for SJIJ.Hi there! Essentially it will come down to the last day and hour of the phase. You may have friends or family members who situate themselves at each school to WA the numbers. Be prepared for very last minute swing in numbers, whether by withdrawal or registration
-
Will the number of applicants be announced/updated before the closing of the registration on the last day?
-
The numbers are updated "live" inside the general office/registration room of the school. So u have to be physically there, especially on the last day. Or u can phone the school (subject to somebody being free to answer the call).
