Phankao has music background so if you have, you will be able to achieve phankao's success.
2 other schools to expose music training at about 18 months is Kindermusik and Rhythm in Me.
yes, i have piano background. a bit rusty in terms of practice now, but i still can remember most of the theoretical stuff. tks for the alternative suggestions for classes.

Yes, my bb can read the terms, like adagio, slow, fast, andante, staccato, etc. He can read thats why.cmeilim:
your baby can read the terms like adagio? wow....u mean words or the symbols? at what age did u start such training at home?
tks v much for your sharing....will try to get a toy drum or else improvise from household items...
do u show him what adagio, andante, staccato etc mean by the pace of beats or play music of different speeds, so that he can associate what he hears with what he reads? how long did u do this before he actually can read the words and understand what they mean? is 1 year old too young to start for my boy if i also want to teach him such stuff? -
cmeilim:
Haiyah, sorry, I think I am probably going too advanced here. Hahah. cmeilim - my baby can read when he was less than 1 year old, so reading new words is not so much of a problem. He understands quite fast with the written word as such.

Ok, let me start from the beginning. We can't start introducing our babies to music from terms & rhythm patterns! *haha* That's why I said, I think start telling you from my own baby's 1year old stage, might be too much for others.
i noticed from the time he was newborn that he could recognise pieces of music. This happened one day when he was crying and his elder brother was practising his violin and then played a piece that he'd practised a lot of when i was pregnant. Baby stopped crying and focussed on the music. Then later when brother was out, and baby was crying again, i took out a CD of the same piece to play, but that didn't work. Then i remembered I had a recording of one of my boy's practices and then played that - yeah, the baby stopped crying to focus on that again. *cute*, huh?
We didn't really introduce him to music in any routine, but there's always some sort of music around our place, lah. Anyway, i later discovered he had very good rhythm as he would take a stick or straw or spoon and beat to the rhythm of music he heard. I did later introduce him to some pieces of music. One of the best would be Spring & Winter of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, especially Winter's 1st movt with it's strong beat. Contrast that with the Slow soothing 2nd movt. my baby loves that! Another good one is the Nutcracker. He loves the intro(overture) and the March, and the Russian & Chinese Dance. There's plenty more, lah.
So you can introduce him to listening to music first, some famous well-loved and often-heard pieces. Then maybe introduce him to different instruments (try youtube.com - *hhahah*).
As for starting on terms/rhythms ... slow/fast (adagio/allegro) can be done by showing slow walking or crawling and tell him it's like a tortoise and fast = could be running very fast, like a cheetah, perhaps. And for terms like \"legato\"(smooth), can liken to how a fish swims. \"Forte\"(loud) can liken to how a lion roars very loudly, \"Staccato\" is like the rabbit hopping or even bouncing a ball, etc, etc.
Anyway, i get loads of tips from the music class he attends lah. -
tks so much for the tips! u hv given me a lot of ideas already.
another question, how did u get your boy to start reading before 1 year old? amazing… -

actually i listen to a lot of classical and jazz music myself normally and during my pregnancy too. when i was taking care of baby on my own during my ML, i played classical and jazz at home too. but since returning to work and my boy is taken care of by my mom, he doesn’t get the exposure to classical music any more. at nite, when he comes home, i play the letterland phonics cd, nursery rhymes/children’s songs and baby signing songs, which he enjoys a lot. during his car journeys to and fro my mum’s place, when he fusses, my hubby will turn on his favourite children’s songs or nursery rhymes CDs, and he would miraculously quietened down to focus on the music and singing.
can i ask when u started observing your child take a stick or straw or spoon and beat to the rhythm of music he heard? i see that in my boy sometimes but not sure if i am just imagining things or it’s just coincidence or it’s real recongition by him. also, when did u start introducing him to some pieces of classical music?
i wish to get my boy back to listening to listening to more classical music again. he used to stop and listen and then smile when i played the nutcracker suite and flight of the bumblebee! vivaldi seasons is a good recommendation too! -

As for my baby's \"conducting\", i think he was just about 1 year old ... I can't really remember. I have videos of Itzhak perlman conducting the Israel Philharmonic orchestra and some others. Also the Nutcracker ballet.
Flashcard DVDs - winktolearn.com and \"your baby can read\". winktolearn has both english & chinese. -
seimpi school of music
offers more formal music training from 10months old onwards compared to Kindermusik which is more fun and focus on rhythm rather than music theory. -
Hey everyone, I'm really new here. In fact, I registered the account only today because I wanted to find out more about Artists Academy Junior. Rather new school I think. Anyone have read/heard/tried the programme? The EMG programme for 3 to 5 looks quite holistic and I'm considering signing my 3 yr-old girl there. (Ok, I'm partly considering it because I came across my friend's FB sharing about some discount they have now  )Comments anyone?
You can read the programme here and give me comments? Really want to start my girl off soon! :rahrah:

Thanks in advance!
