Hi everybody. Would like to share my experience as a SST parent especially since Open House has just concluded.

Hopes this helps parents interested in applying to SST

SST admits strictly based on DSA process only. Therefore criteria is more broad based.

The fundamental thing is your child must be interested in STEAM fields as well as applied and interdisciplinary learning.

<Update: SST is now accepting applications. For more info, please visit school website, http://www.sst.edu.sg/admission/admission-process/

      There are 2 phases.
Phase 1: GAT&CRT test + Portfolio review + Holistic Analysis
      Phase 2 : Selection Process

Applicants must pass phase 1 before going on the phase 2. SST admits up to 200 students per cohort.

The school will consider CCA and holistic development, academic performance, as well as the logical reason and potential shown in students through the GAT and CRT tests

For the selection camp, the Admissions Officers will observe and conclude who will be the best fit for SST. SST is a very fast paced environment and its focus on applied & interdisciplinary learning may not be suited for everyone.

When applying for DSA in general, I think it is important to know what your child is thinking - Are they really interested? Are they really committed/passionate to the area when applying for DSA. (In SST's case this would be STEAM education and applied and interdisciplinary learning)

Overall conclusion is submit application first showcasing your child's holistic development and interest in STEAM. No need to prepare for GAT, CRT test in my opinion. Afterall the test were designed to identify the cognitive level and reasoning level of the child and mainly logical reasoning.

Interviews, just let your child be themselves naturally. No point trying to fit a certain mould and try to bluff the admissions officers. The AOs are SST staff so they know the kind of qualities, collaboration, communication, critical thinking to look out for. These things are to hard to bluff IMO.

To sum it up, just showcase and submit portfolio, let the child be themselves. Treat the entire process as a learning experience, I think that is more important than anything else

Hopes this helps parents of Potential SST Students.

FYI : If you are interested to know more, head over to the SST related forums. There is a SST Main thread discussing more about SST and a \"SST vs NUSH\" thread focusing on the differences between the 2 schools. Hope this helps 🙂

          Charcheah:
Hi, I tried to log in to GAT website since yesterday for GAT resgistration but encounter this error message that forbade me to proceed further -

“The precondition on the request for the URL /register/yr1/index.php evaluated to false. Additionally, a 412 Precondition Failed error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
that forbade me to proceed further for making payment . :scratchhead:
Seems like the URL having problem ? Anyone counter this issue ? Many thanks in advance.
Looks ok now? U still have issues? Perhaps change to other browsers?

Agree with what emoh's suggested. It may be because of browser compatibility.

If any parents still have issues, you can trying contacting them via phone.

RI is an IP school, hence it's a 6 years prog all the way to JC (Alevels). If entry is thru DSA, from what I understand, DSA students would have to go thru the way to JC at DSA school (in your case @ RI).

Even if entry is not thru DSA, for IP track schools, since there's no Olevels exams at Sec 4, assessment to enter another JC could perhaps be at discretion of individual JCs.
