wow that's great! just curious, does ur gal has any phonic background prior to attending ICR? which branch is she attending?Just wanna share my sucess story with all KS parents, my girl joined ICR PRP when whe was exactly 4 (april 2009) and she had just completed book 5 of the ICR programme and should start on Stage 2-Book 6 which will take another 6 months or so...however, her teacher recommended that our dear DD could skip book 6 ..The teacher wants her to proceed to the advanced reading class which is of faster pace....Children in this group will read novels and tackle comprehension...My girl is in K1 this year....
I personally have good experience with ICR.and her teacher...
My girl is also taking weekly S&D class conducted in Lcentral and I also did go through their reading programme materials..Both of the school has different methodologies. It really depends on the teacher and the children....
The best is to go for both assessments, go through their programme/materials and make a comparison....If u dont see any result, make a switch...it could be the programme does not work for your child...Good Luck! -

Hi, brought my gal for the assessment n was recommended for Foundation. Somehow, i feel that the centre prefers to start kids b4 4 on foundation b4 promoting to launchpadHi zenn74
I am a tutor at LCentral. I wouldn't like to comment on one over the other, but as the assessment is free at both schools, you could consider taking your child for an assessment at an LCentral branch nearest your place. The teacher would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

just curious, what is the requirement to be in launchpad program? -

Oh yes...she had phonics background prior to joining ICR...that was why she started with ICR PRP (pre reading programme) since she already knew all the 1st sound when she went for their assessment. Good Luck! -
Hi Monster Mummy, she will starts their advanced reading class this week and i will let her continue with the class...Probably after her advanced reading class, we will see how it goes.. Honestly, i am very happy with her progress with ICR...She joined them in Apr 09 when she was in N2 and she had made tremendous progress...She is now an independant reader and I believe grammar can also be picked up from reading...We will monitor and see how it goes..If we need to switch later, we will lor..
Well, your kids oso taking S&D in LCentral?? My girl has been enjoying the class and she likes her teacher too....
Hi HappyAvon
My two kids are also enjoying their classes especially for my gal able to speak up else last time she is too shy. -

Actually the programs in LCentral are ability based, however very rarely, the teacher may feel that a very young child should start at the Foundations level even if they are borderline candidates for Launchpad. This is because other activities are also used to enhance the lesson for the younger child, taking into account their level of concentration and vocabulary, enunciation and ability to participate in a classroom setting. The younger ones have a ball in the Foundations class! (As do the teachers!) The teachers are also able to cater to each student individually, so for an advanced Foundations student, the teacher could start to introduce Launchpad activities to him/her.
Generally speaking, a child should be confident and independent (not too shy, or likely to cry), have access to first sounds in words and be confident holding/using a pencil before being promoted to Launchpad.
However, it should be stressed that your child would not remain in a class that he/she does not need to be in. Regardless of age, the child will be promoted if the outcomes are achieved. -
Hi all,
My 6 years old gal is in ICR in West Coast Plaza since Dec 2009. It was OK initially with a male ang mo teacher but he left suddenly for good due to some family issues and an ang mo female teacher took over. She was stricter and don't play games with the children. My gal's interest level went down. The new teacher was not receptive to suggestions from parents and was late for class at times. Well, I think the teacher is a very important factor in determining the progress of your child's learning and I'm planning to change her class soon
Can anyone recommend a better teacher in any branch in the West? I'm also open to a new center. -

Hi Celyw,Hi,
how about ICR at West Coast Plaza? Any parent send their children there?
:?:
My gal was with ICR West Cost Plaza... I didn't really have a good experience with the new teacher. She won't entertain you after the lesson unless you make an appointment with her. Today, I just saw 2 spelling errors in my gal's workbook that were not corrected by her in last week's class. I was really disappointed with their standard/quality
