Hi, I'm keen on tuition recommendations. And coincidentally I live in Ang Mo Kio so it's close to Northeast!

I'm looking for tuition for my younger one. My older one attends tuition at anglais academy.. I think their website is http://www.anglaisacademy.com and so far I've seen plenty of improvement in my older one. Her mid-years got A2 this time from last year's barely passing. But their classes are full so my younger one can't join. Need to look for alternatives.

For Secondary EL tuition, PM me if keen on tuition from Head of Department English. At Northeast; must travel to home.

I've also found some good papers here: http://www.teachifyme.com/o-level-english-past-papers/

to tutors here, are these o level papers suitable for local students? the format looks different when I look at my gal's school papers.

          Hi Katie73

The past papers in the link you posted are for \"Syllabus 1123\". These are different from the GCE 'O' Level papers that students in Singapore sit for. Ours is Syllabus 1128. It would be better to use papers that are designed with the 1128 syllabus in mind, in order not to confuse local students.

Thanks LanglitEnglish and Schootopia! I'll search for some more local alternatives then.

The paper format is basically different. The writing section is quite different. The comprehension section may still be used if you are flexible and do some modifications.

any recommendations? Quite desperate for a good english tutor. don’t want a tutor that will come and read from the textbook only.

Hi iceywind88, it will be good to find tutors who are familiar with the MOE syllabuses that are found in the SEAB website. In this case, MOE trained tutors (former or current teachers) would fit the bill though the rates they charge would usually be higher than the non-MOE tutors. Have a conversation with potential tutors to find out about how they intend to help your sons to improve in English, and you will have a good idea whether these tutors have the necessary credentials and competency.

In the meantime, try to inculcate a habit of reading on current affairs in your sons. Newspapers articles would be a good start for them to gain content knowledge that is necessary for expository writing at Upper Secondary.

                    Hope this helps!
