Yes, Ladylady was right. It is NJC’s academic criteria that the applicants have to fulfil for their 1st round. NJC’s CCA’s 1st round is totally different from other IP schools that require applicants’ sports domain to be in zonal competition or Top 3 in that sports. If your child dsa via sports to other IP schools, the result no need to be 80-90s range, can be 75%. These schools are really looking for sports talent.
That is why NJC stated that "no past experience is required" for any CCA that your child wants to dsa. NJC is NOT looking for sports talent after all. But of course, your child also must know how to play a bit of that sports even though they are not looking for sports talent. Their 1st round is just like the primary school’s CCA trial & auditions.
But for applicants dsa through Music or Art-- The child really need to have past experiences. Once again, NJC is looking at school results first before they shortlist the applicants for the 1st round.
Maybe any parents can update here if their child get shortlisted for NJC’S 1st round even though the school’s results are below 80s range, in total overall or specific subjects?? -
I see, so those who didn’t receive notification for music, basketball and track & field means not successful at all? My friend’s son applied for basketball but has not received any notification yet…[/quote]
Hi, highly not successful bah,Ask your friend to call NJC to confirm better. -

Why 75%? Why not 60%?
If schools are really looking for sports talent, 50% is also a passing grade.
While NJC have stated their minimum requirement upfront, others may make you go through 3 rounds of auditions but eliminate you in the final round if they feel that the candidate is unlikely to keep up with the academic requirements. Would that change your perception whether these schools are really looking for sports talent or not?
Ultimately, all schools have a responsibility to ensure that their students keep up with the required academic expectations. Bearing in mind that NJC only offer IP, which is a 6 year programme, they have to be more stringent and careful about their students compared to schools that can offer DSA into O level track, or has both IP and O level tracks in their school. If the NJC student cannot-make-it at the end of the journey, it is worthwhile to remember that the student only has a PSLE certificate to rely on.
The above is not the same as saying that the academic is the ultimate / only consideration while sports / music / art merits are thrown aside. -

Maybe those are very clear-cut, \"clear-want\" cases? -

I also wonder why so fast called up for trial? From what i know, the email was sent out last week for this week's 1st round. So probably, the emails will send out again this week for next week's other CCA domains. I'm still waiting patiently for my email as my DD's CCA domain's date are not confirm yet. Really have butterfly in my stomach! Haha! :stompfeet:lizuan76:
