That's interesting to know. Could it be that your DS is very good in Badminton?
RestandRelax:
Thanks Imp75! I heard from some parents who went for the Open House this year that it was communicated to them min 80% for Sports DSA. Maybe the raise is partly due to the removal of GAT? Now have to wait for their email to see if shortlisted or not!
Was surprised to receive email invitation for badminton trial on 20 Jul although my DS P6 S1 average was only 70%. His P5 average was 78%.
My DS plays competatively. Above average, not among the best. In any case, DHS would not be able to tell since I only submit academic results. I noted that unlike previous years, DHS website this year only mention must have good results but did not quantify the %. Hence we just submit. -
RestandRelax:
But you do need to submit hardcopies of his CCA achievements, no? In any case, :congrats: for being shortlisted for trial!

Thanks. The cca achivements are indicated in the copies of the report book. Nothing spectacular. Just captain of a weak school team. Perhaps DHS needs a wider base for selection as its c boys this year is quite weak.

A quick question, does DHS offer Art Elective Program, or its in-house equivalent?

Yep, it does. And its held in the school itself -
Hi, my DS is in sec one.
Would like to check the standard of marking of test paper in Dunman. E.g. DS wrote the correct answers on the test paper instead of the graph paper as per instruction. Out of 9 marks, was given 2marks ..:(
A 3 marks qns, answers were correct but not using correct way.no marks given.
Really that strict? Must really follow teacher's method? -
May I know how often are the practice session for Performing Arts- Dance , Choir?
-
Min Min:
Firstly if the instructions were to write the answers on the graph paper, he should only write his answers for that question on the graph paper, if he writes the answers anywhere else, he can be marked wrong. (Though it seems good enough that the teacher gave two marks, since based on what I remember when I was in DHS Y1 four years ago, it won't be marked at all.) Just remind your son not to make this mistake again just to be safe from losing marks in the more major exams such as common tests or the EOY.Hi, my DS is in sec one.

Secondly, for the 3 marks question, there may be a few reasons:
1) He got the answer by luck and the method was actually incorrect.
2) Question asked you to derive the answer from your answer in the previous part (i.e. Hence, find the answer for xxx (for a Math paper) )
... and so on, but you can ask your son to approach his teacher on why his answer was marked as incorrect despite his correct answer. -
Hi mummies, daddies and perhaps students of DHS,
Can I find out more about the culture, teachers and the IP program in general?
My child received a CO in Performing Arts…my child is an average student who scored low-mid A for 4 subjects in sch, but managed to meet the min 80% aggregate score.
I’m concerned about accepting the CO :
1) can she manage to survive thru IP prog
2) by accepting DSA, it would means 6 yrs in the IP prog. if she cannot cope or dislike the IP prog, we would not be able to transfer to another main stream sch due to the ‘contract’ bounded by DSA acceptance
3) is the culture very scaled towards Chinese?
Can anyone share with me your experience and thoughta?
TIA -

1) Your child will be assessed n graded throughout the year. There's a minimum GPA for each level. For Y1 to Y2, GPA 2.0. For Y2 to Y3 n the rest, GPA 2.4. At the end of Y2 streaming, those with less than GPA 2.4 would be offered the O'level track in Y3 with just a class in DHS. In fact last yr when my DD was in Y2, Mr Foo advised those with 1 or 2 points above 2.4 to consider going to the O'level class. Last wk after all the results were out, according to my DD, they had a board meeting. There were quite a number of students especially from a particular class who scored below GPA 2.4. Not sure what are the options gonna be offered to them.
Will they be asked to repeat Y3? Will DHS open another O'level class for them n prep them to take Os nxt yr?
2) Sorry I'm not familiar with DSA terms as my DD was a non DSA student.
3) DHS like the others SAP sch exposed students to more Chinese prog (calligraphy, tea ceremony, celeb CNY/Mid Autumn..) so that the Chinese culture will be appreciated. Their sch song is in Mandarin. My DD n peers who dislike HCL are still coping fine n happy in school. Most of the students speak English.
Hope my sharing helps a little..
