DSA 2017

It dose not matter if you get 2 or more co or co+WL. Spend reasonable time to compare the schools carefully, select the only one that suits our DC is very important. I don’t think there are parents will Dsa to schools they don’t like. It’s only which one like the best or suits the best.

Hi Dunma,
Good suggestion, but not feasible. As so many schools results not out yet, I don't think the patents and students can make decision on spot next week when receiving co. Only hope next Monday, then some parents may call admin before 31/8. I know quite some, they just DSA first, after getting co, then START to think which one is the most suitable. Even if some call admin, admin must have enough time to call other parents, modify whole wl, and submit to moe. If they think time not enough, they won't bother to do it if only few cases, as they already have wl, it works every and each year.
Honestly, I don't know about other schools' admin but it is from the principal's plea to parents to decide & release quickly if they don't want the place so that others can benefit from that precious offer of place. I'm comforted that these educators hv the heart for the students & parents to bother to highlight & work fast. I've not heard much KSP parents talk abt making these decisions in consideration of others, esp those with more than 1 COs. -
Estéema:
So, your u'stand'g same that after Option Form submitted no more changes.
I am not sure one can do that. As per my information given to me by Admin at NUS high during tea party, when the school releases their CO and waitlist they submit it to MOE and changes to that can be made only by MOE after the option forms are filled. So even if the parents want to be considerate and helpful its not possible to inform school and cancel the COkash313:
ALL schools shld hv release DSA results (offers/rejections) by 31 Aug via calls/emails/post letters) to candidates.
Once candidates receives CO, and some wld hv applied to several schools, the schools & other candidates will appreciate if CO recipients can decisively select their school of choice & inform other schools to release your COs which u DO NOT want asap. Only, I'm not certain it shld be done before 31 Aug or 30 Oct, as Option Forms to accept COs will be sent out after 31 Aug & closing date is 30 Oct.
These dates are all in sync with all schools under MOE system. So, depending on how fast admin works & how considerate those who received more than one COs release places/opportunities to others & schools are trying to work within the MOE framework to convert WL.
So, if School A offered 80 COs & 10 WL places but amongst 15 of their candidates received 2 or more COs fr other schools. If considerate & decisive parents inform School A immediately (before 31 Aug) that they've decided on School B, opportunity goes to next in line for WL.
Assuming 12 kind & decisive parents act fast to release places their DC will not need as they've replied to accept School B, those 10 WL will be converted to COs & they'll call up 2 more to offer WL.
I believe the deadline is 31 Aug bcoz the Principal briefed that after that date, it is not within his control to convert WL. So, going by the fact that Option Forms will be issued btwn 31 Aug to 30 Oct, I'll assume these are then controlled in MOE system.
After Option Forms are returned (closing date 30 Oct), the formal registration of DSA choices begins btwn 30 Oct to 3 Nov. once DSA Registration completed, these DSA CO recipients will not participate in S1 posting.
So, advice to parents with >1 COs to please consider others who want that extra opportunities you're holding to be decisive & choose your DC's choice & RELEASE immediately do that the sch admin can make other anxious parents' day converting their WL.
For those anxious parents with WL or hv not been called, relax abit don't tense yourself up. DS may hv received CO but we still want to see consistent effort put in for PSLE. It's to train habits that will be a lifetime - DSA distracts him & we've not inform DV good news till after Prelims.
All the best for this coming week to those waiting for that call/email/letter.
So, if all parents with >1 COs can decide fast, precious places can be released to qualifying hopefuls down the line.
once school informs parents, they submit list to MOM nothing can be done after that regardless of if its before 31st August or not. I think what we can do as suggested by someone earlier, after all results out, make a list of how many parents have more then 1 CO and which school CO they are giving up so that parents on WL can have some rough idea. I understand not every parent is on this forum but still we can get a fair idea. -

Hi smiling,
Nothing surprises me in life. There are some applied for schools they hear are good, w/o first regarding child's interests, inclination, etc. Some adopt attitude apply as many & get which to narrow down 'slowly'. Some got COs & take their time. It's not wrong in their perspectives. I'm only concern if we can highlight to parents willing to be considerate by working it out early & release the extra places sooner than later.
I'm only sharing coz I read so many of you anxiously waiting.... -

Before 31 Aug, I'm quite certain schools can still convert WL. After that date I'm not too sure still possible coz that's the time entire CO list will be in MOE system.

Yes, this p and educators are heartfelt, they know our anxious parents' feeling, that's why they released the results so early. But still, there are quite number of schools still working on it. I believe all our forum participants are considerate, if they can do it, they will call.

I totally understand what ur trying to say as I am also waiting for the outcome. -
taurbear:
These are really for those traditionally 'hot' schools with exceptionally more applicants than candidates. Anecdotally, RI, ACSI, HCI, NUSH, NYGH, RGS, MGS, etc. I know ACSI >900 applicants this year compared to >800 last year chasing after 130 places. For NUSH, it's again different coz no S1 posting & all via DSA. So, decision might not be as expediently made.
there was no option form for CO received from CHS or SOTA. Not sure about other school. Only state in the letter to select in the option form that will be issued via school on 30Oct
MOE controls up to this framework in these past years, but moving fwd, I'm sure every school will not need to sweat over places given up but not informed before S1 posting, which means they can't offer the remaining (untaken) DSA places to their DSA choice applicants who are equally good but just stuck in the queue. -
dunma:
Earlier before we received COs, I've been monitoring & suspect other schools smarter in their strategy - they offer sure cases & for sports & talents they want first. Those accept/reject clearly (coz some sports master kept asking DC's classmate if they're sure they'll take up coz many others want their place!). Then the remaining offer before/by next week & leave less chance for parents to sit on most of their offers.

Nevertheless, it's an imperfect world with live in. No perfect solutions. I'm sure when MOE take over, veteran parents with younger ones wld look back at the 'more flexible' DSA process that we hv now. Just MHO. Pls do not flame.
