My friend has this problem. Her DD was unsuccessful from Sch A but received a CO from Sch B. Her choice school is really Sch A. Now her dilemma is whether to reject CO from Sch B and try her best in PSLE to enter her dream Sch A (but risky because you won’t know the results until Nov), or to accept CO from Sch B but with possible regret if PSLE results good enough to enter Sch A?

Any parents with past experiences (successful and unsuccessful ones) to share?
So even if sch A is NUSH WL, sch B is RI CO. RI CO will not be lost if we place it second choice ??Really want to know. Thank you!

Yes. RI will still be in your hands, whilst your other hand tries to chope NUSH WL (in case u're next. in queue when others release CO.

Anyway, u got WL for NUSH? I hardly hear of WL for NUSH. Well done!

        Hi Esteema,
Thanks! we didn't expect RI CO at all, it's really great but this has also given us massive headache n super heated discussions. By now DS is super confused by family members taking different sides of the 2 schools. He really need some time to think through which sch is best for his growth n interests for the next 6 years. His sch, his choice ultimately 😓
Our DD got a very good sense of the school spirit during the open house. One, she felt totally uncomfortable and the other right at home (even asked us to let her explore on her own!) I guess her mind was pretty made up then.
I believe the social aspects - peers, friends - personal growth are as important as what the school can offer in academic growth.

Yeah, it's quite bizarre as we specifically applied for IP. Thanks phtthp for the info! We'll be writing to them.

And just in case anyone was wondering, the letter only states \"must be eligible to attend express course\", it doesn't state any target score.

          Strange !

First time, hear of such case.

Btw, the correct telephone no is 354-1839, Not 345-1839 (my apology)

Because last year (2016) : COP for SNGS O level was 253, while COP for IP was 257.
253 and 257 are very high.
So, they may not be looking at 200.

When you call them tomorrow, clarify with them, \"Does it mean that if my daughter's PSLE T-score were to fall within a certain minimum Range, means the WL (Waitlist) will qualify her for O level track, whereas if her T-score were to fall under another much higher range, means she qualify for IP track \"?

Then, u have to ask them : what exactly are these 2 different Ranges ?

Thanks a lot for the guidance - in the moment of confusion, we didn't even think to ask these questions. Thank you! I'll update tomorrow so other parents can take this for future reference if applicable.
I have checked with SNGS earlier and their reply was \"in line with MOE guidelines, with a CO, a place in our school is reserved for your daughter as long as she qualifies for the Express course based on her PSLE results\". So I believe she just needs to qualify for the national Express COP to enter IP. Nevertheless, you can call the school to check again.

Similar dilemma here, especially CO is also very good girl sch with 50% IP intake and the other 50% O intake with no pri sch affiliation whatsoever. Too bad the one we missed out is the R (no affiliation also) so very risky to rely on PSLE score alone to get in.

Even adults cannot decide, let alone a 12yo to decide her future betw 2 schs with totally diff culture. I will wait for PSLE to finish and decide, but I guess there will not be a right or wrong answer at the end of the day, just hv to move on and not look back. No matter which sch there is no escape from the extreme stress for our DCs for the next 6years

              Need ur advice.

My child has CO from Sch A and CO from Sch B.
Sch A 's criteria is to meet the min cut off for express stream and Sch B dun have criteria as it will still take in my child.

My child prefer Sch A and wanted to give up Sch B.

If in the option form, my child did not put Sch B as 2nd choice and does not meet the criteria for Sch A. Will my child go thru Sec 1 posting route?

Usually those who dare to give up co and try psle are with good academic records, they can make it through psle normally.
Even if there is unforeseen situation, as long as it's their dream school, they still can try at Y3 or Y5.
But if accept the other school co, it's 6 years lock-in.

May i ask if it is better to go to a (A) full IP school or with one (B) mix of IP and O level? Just wonder if School A will be more dedicated in grooming the children than School B which may persuade IP students with not so good results to give up their seat and take up O level route (esp if sch may have in queue other good O level students in the sane school who want to move up to take IP or take in new yr 3 IP stdents with good results frm other schools)?

Yes, in this case your DC will have to go thru s1 posting route becos you have already given up the CO for school B by not putting it on 2nd choice.

                      Hi venus77,

Congratulations! Yr child will be th envy of all. 2 COs means double confirm. No worries alr meet criteria for a place in both schools. A CO means u still hv to minimally qualify for Express stream in yr PSLE score, no different. What School told u, it shld be same for School B.

So if yr child prefers School A, and pls double confirm with her, then u might consider releasing CO for School B, unless for some reason u're not sure she can meet min score to qualify even Express. (Sorry abit too candid & direct here).
If u do release the CO rec'd fr School B, the next ranked in line waiting to convert WL will receive your blessings.

Your decision is not as difficult some other kids who can't be sure where they like to go.

                      All the best!
