      hi starlight1968sg

Can you try to recall what your HR offered to staff in 2015? GE2015 Polling Day was on a Sat as well during the Sept school holidays. Unless you’ve changed employer?

If PH is on a Sat, there is off in lieu?

mine will credit extra day leave to my annual leave; hubby's will ask them to take Monday off in lieu. PROVIDED Sat is declared a PH.

I suspect it will either be a walkover or there will be at least 3 contestants.
Seems very likely.. hate this to be the case.

If got balls, fight 1 to 1 lah, why put a 3rd leg.. wait....

Let's see whether the 2017 PE gets remembered as the one where the qualification criteria turns into a farce where someone who has held office that has only seen $40m budgets is deemed eligible, while the other two who have headed $250m and $400m companies are deemed not to have satisfied the financial knowledge criteria.
                That remains to be seen.

But one thing you can already see now is, 2017 PE is when suddenly OTC is not deemed the 1st PE in Singapore

If they just shove the electorate with their preferred chosen one by disqualifying the other 2 men, I'm afraid she won't be respected or well-loved by many, judging from the online criticisms of her on FB, in the next 6 years.

Or perhaps they don't care, because they just want their way, like they disqualified the candidates for Nathan's 2 PEs in 1999 and 2005. Sadly, only the unionists and those in the Indian community loved Nathan. I don't think many Chinese loved Nathan, looking at the number of people who went to pay their last respects, as well as the stark absence of a 'Remembering Nathan' thread and chatter on this Kiasuparents forum.

That's how it is. You 硬硬 install your preferred president, but no one else loves him/her. Only you ownself publish your own narrative to exalt and extol your chosen one!

err.. Is there ever a concern whether the pple like the pres or not..? or rather, is there any interest in WHAT the pple wants?

The only consideration is whether The P can serve the \"government\" ( or replace with \"Singapore\") well.... no?

In an open PE, you need enough people to like the presidential candidate to win their votes. Whether they continue to like the elected president after his victory is inconsequential.

And some will even say no Malay President.

She is the most qualified Indian to be a Malay President. She will be an awesome President.

                    no precedence!

please don't have a walkover. i want a public holiday off in lieu - so that there is a long weekend to revise for final year exam with daughter.

as for who sits there, no difference. million dollar pay, no power, first class travel, annual NDP wave.

Err. It's a Saturday, students will report to school as usual on Monday. There won't be a off in lieu or long weekend.

that one still remains to be seen..

Since Saturday is off day, MOE may give teachers off-in-lieu.. so still got chance no school unless school can function w/o teachers.

I thought the purpose of making polling day a PH is so that people can go and vote? So, why need to give off-in-lieu for those who already can go and vote on a Saturday? :scratchhead:

Because it's declared as a PH. If declared as PH than all practices wrt PH follows.

They need not declare as PH if they prefer, just declare compulsory OFF for SINGAPOREAN workers only for them to vote (like mobilization for NSmen). But if they declare PH for whatever reasons, then just enjoy the ride lor.
