Hi, I have a 3 year old son who is just diagnosed with mild to moderate autism symptoms.

Although CDU refers me a EIPIC near my place, but it appears that it has a long waiting queue.
May someone guide me on what to do to ensure my son has early intervention as soon as possible?

Go for speech theraphy while waiting for Epic.

Speech Theraphy plays very important role.

While waiting for epic, go for speech therapy and occupation therapy that assign from CDU. Besides that attend workshop that organised by CUD.


Epic is good. It’s help the kids a lot.

I have a 2.5 years he don’t seemed to understand verbal instructions well. I showed him the abstract symbol card he don’t understand.

Then I shown him real object eg his shoes to tell him wear shoes.

How can I better communicate with him so that he understand or how should I communicate with him.

May I check if anyone can share how do you teach children what to do if they get lost from parent or how to prevent so that they stay in the group especial for asd child.

Hi, My son is autistic. He was diagnosed when he was 3 years old. Now he is 9. We were residing in Aurora. We migrated to Alberta last month. He has a rational fear towards dental appointments. He has extreme sensory and oral motor integration issues. Visiting a new physician is a frightful thing for him. All of the tools and noises stresses him and makes it difficult to work on. Every physician we consulted has always sedated him before every procedure. His dental health is in poor condition. His previous dentist http://www.skyviewdental.ca/meet-our-team/our-team/. He treats him well and we are satisfied by his service. My son suffers from gingival overgrowth and severe periodontal disease. My friend told me that autistic children need special care and it would be much better if I consult a pediatric dentist. My son is kind of used to his previous dentist. He knows and understands his fears. I don’t know how I am going to convince him about his new dentist. Kindly share your views regarding this. Thank you.

Is the current dentist able to handle him and treat his dental problem.
Some ASD kids prefers familiar person to attend to him.

If need to see new pediatric dentist for the dental problem can prepare him beforehand with social story.

I tried pediatric dentist before they seemed to know the strategy to make the child calm comparing to a normal dentist who is impatience with my child.

you could continue to use object 1st and the nx level you could use photo of the object instead of abstract symbol card.
I would recommend using PECs to help your child to communicate . I think kkh shld have workshop on it

We are conducting a research to investigate how genes might interact with certain environmental factors, and how that may contribute to improving the relationship quality between mothers and their child with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

We are recruiting mothers aged 21 and above who have children with a diagnosis of ASD aged between 3 to 7 to participate in our paid study.

Our study consists of 2 portions - an online questionnaire and the collection of saliva samples from both mother and child either at home, at your child's center or at our lab.
