大中国 uses a paper box for mooncakes

大中国 quality has improved. the lotus paste is more moist but its glory days are over. i remember queuing with mum in chinatown back then for the mooncakes.

But it’s price is also on high side right, though it’s a simpler paper box?

Paper can be recycled, and it can be made from recycled pulp, but it takes effort to clean and reform it. If it's not recycled, in Singapore, it's incinerated and added to the landfill. I'm not sure about the cost of producing metal boxes, but I would guess that they are used for mooncakes as a way to increase the price by more than the cost of the box. And if they aren't recycled, they just add to the landfill. For non-gift mooncakes, consumers should demand to have as little packaging as possible (and hopefully save some costs too).

Dh makes 冰皮 mooncakes every year. Material cost is actually quite low. $40+ material can make around 100 mooncakes. For own consumption
