mathsparks:
My son's DSA interview at HCI the year before last year was conducted by a teacher and a student. Two to One. It was totally in English and a very pleasant experience for him. When he left the room, they said to him:\" see you around soon!\". He was very confident he will be in.hi vlim,
for hci, the interview was conducted in chinese by a teacher and a sec4 student. So, 1 P6 student facing 2 interviewers, quite unnerving I must say, and in Chinese too.
for ri, 2 teachers conduct the interview in english with 3 students from different schools. -
Fairy:
so, was you son in via DSA ?

.. most likely not going to any open house this year. Better to go next yr when he is in p6..For the RI interview, the 3 students which u mentioned, are they interviewees?

Actually it may be useful to visit the open house while the child is still in P5.
Reason being : inspirational factor, get to know what the school is like, as many principals told the students that preparation for PSLE starts in P5, NOT P6 -

emm...then I will reconsider....is it ok not to attend the briefing by the principal/teacher in charge but just tour the schools :?Actually it may be useful to visit the open house while the child is still in P5.

usually at open house, you get more detailed info, less of a time constraint on the host (principal, teachers etc )...and get to talk to some of the students to understand more what their school life was like
last year talked to some who got in via DSA sports .... their comment on their academic work are very different from those who got in via DSA academic or S1 posting -
wonderm:
Correct, there're different formats. My son was interviewed by a teacher an a student. The interview was started in English at first then switched to Chinese. The student right before my son from the same interview room was interviewed in English.mathsparks:
hey wonderm, mine's not hearsay. It was my son's experience from last year.
Thanks for the update. I do not doubt your boy's experience at all. Similarly, I hear this from friends whose sons went for the interviews and there is no reason to doubt them too. I guess it only means HCI does not conduct interviews in the same format for all students. -
vlim:
yep, the 3 students are the dsa applicants.
thanks mathsparks
