All About Active Community Leaders

Hello everyone,
I would really appreciate your help with the following questions:
1) With regards to being a community member, does that refer to signing up as a volunteer with PA and filling up the Volunteer Registration Form?
Signing up is just the first step, then see if the RC invite you to be observer, then if lucky get convert to EM, then the 2 years of service start clocking
2) Can we volunteer with any of the various committees (CCCs, RCs, NCs, CSCs, CCMCs, etc)? Or are there specific committees that hold more activities or give us a greater chance of becoming an executive member/active community member status in good time?
RC and NC are easier to join as they are more \"on the ground', CCC and CCMC are more toward constituency level projects where usually the members are appointed by the MP so not likely can join in easily.
3) How long does it usually take to be endorsed as an \"active community member\", and what are the specific titles (eg. EM) that grant us \"active community member\" status?
The minimum is 2 years, EM refers to the office bearer positions with voting rights.
4) How long are we supposed to be \"active community member\" in status, before the July registration for our children?
See above
Thank you so much, I truly appreciate your help with this, as I'm applying at my nearby RC soon. Take care! -

1. I would advise to target to be converted to EM by Jan or Feb 2018 to be safe, as the request for letter of eligibility will open sometime around late May, so don't plan just in time. Heard from some others whereby can't get the letter because short of a few days to reach minimum 2 years due to delay in approval from observer to EM.Hi everyone,
Just to clarify: suppose my child's Primary 1 registration exercise falls in last week of June 2020 (for the school year 2021), and I'm supposed to serve a minimum of 2 years as AM or EM, does that mean I have be move from observer to being confirmed as AM/EM by a certain date in 2018, such as June 1st or something?
Also, where can I find specific info that says the two years of active community service starts from the AM or EM phase, and that the months as observer do not count? Did anyone here taking this route get an email saying something along those lines? I can't seem to find any info online. Thanks!
2. The term \"active community leader\" defines that someone who have received PA letter to confirm them as GRL and are active in the community events, You will not get this letter as an observer thus cannot be counted in the 2 years minimum service. -

You must be appointed as AM/EM before 30 June 2018.
2 Only the following are eligible to apply under the Scheme:
(a)\tCDC District Councillors who have completed at least two years of active continuous service immediately prior to their application
(i.e. appointed on or before 30 June 2015); and
(b)\tGRLs of CCC, CCMC, RC and NC who have completed at least two years of active continuous service immediately prior to their application
(i.e. appointed on or before 30 June 2015 and subject to the local constituency’s internal requirements, if any).
3 You are eligible to register their children at schools situated within the GRC/SMC where you reside, based on the boundaries after the 2015 General Election, as the majority of your eligible two-year service period was based on this set of boundaries. Eligible CDC District Councillors/GRLs are able to view the list of schools when you submit your applications via the Grassroots Connect. -
Thank you for the replies, troychua79 and joseph.ayk, things are much clearer now.

Hi all,
After reading numerous pages, I’m in a dilemma of whether to approach the RC at my GRC
My kid is 2014, and will be registering in 2020.
Keen in approaching RC Tmr to register with the advise of one volunteer today. However the timing is abit tight. With the assumption year end I start my observer work and 6 months later convert to EM, its rather tight and uncertain.
Hence need advise from everyone.
Also, assuming I’m endorse as active community leader , am I able to apply the primary school that is > 2km ? I’m residing in West Coast GrC , anyone know what primary school is in this area ? -

You can apply for a school that is >2km provided it is within the boundaries of your GRC. However, whether you can get it or not, is another matter given that distance priority is also in play in Phase 2B.Hi all,

That will depend on the school you are keen in. If it require balloting or have no chance at Phase 2B based on where you live, why bother. -
Hi all,
Need some advice. I’ve been an active GRL for a year, in time for registering my kid in 2019. But I’m moving house, likely within the same GRC. Can I switch NCs and will that still count as 2 continuous years of service?
Thanks. -
Dear Parents
If my child is born in 2013 and starting primary school in 2020, when registration usually starts?
And how do I know what are the primary schools under the GRC that I wish to sign for as RC member?
Can someone help me? Im all so clueless and read that people are starting to volunteer and clock in PV in their preferred school. Is there no hope for me?
