Dear all,
My boy is 3.7 years old and diagnoised as Aspergers from private school. I would like to listen/hear the suggestions from all that Childcare centres that accomodate special needs kids in East side of singapore. We are staying in Pasir ris and currently my boy is attending EARLY INTERVENTION SECTION (3X) a week and one hour per day in Bridge learing school at CCK sports complex. In additon, we sent him to private speech thraphist once a week too.
At BL school, all teachers and service are good but transportation is main issue/problem for us
. So we are planning to tranfer my boy to suitable school to east side.

DAS mostly provides therapy for children with Dyslexia. it might be worthwhile looking at other therapy centers close to your location or to look for home based-speech therapy services that would be more convenient and would promote better generalisation of skills learnt (speechbubbles.com.sg offers home-based speech therapy services).
Hi... my 4yo is also referred to EIPIC and I was told she will get the slot in next year March. While waiting for the slot, she goes for her speech therapy at CDU.kay_liz:

For GDD cases, their overall development is slow. This would impact their development of their overall posture and tone. As speech requires the use of many fine muscles, like the tongue, palate, jaw and lips, it is considered to by a type of fine motor skill (like writing). Typical muscular development requires a child to adequately develop their core and trunk muscles before their speech muscles are properly developed. As such, try to focus more on their core and trunk muscles first.
However, seeing a speech therapist is also essential to help develop the necessary skills for your child to communicate. this includes your child's receptive language and to promote verbal behaviour to let your child know that she can use words to express herself. Please do not focus on the accuracy of her articulation yet. This would be counter productive and would discourage her to talk (i.e. \"everything i say is wrong... I might as well don't speak\").[/quote]Hi.. yes it is a centre for Dyslexia but on top of that they have speech and language therapy. I don't know, but I wanted to do anything that can at least help her at the moment while waiting and waiting... What other centres can I bring her to other than those government and private centres listed in SGEnables? I have very limited options at the moment. I am a FTWM and my child is in a full time mainstream CC and because of her condition, she needs to go to an EIPIC for 2-hourly sessions daily.
I have a lot of dilemma in my decision right now because:
1) The EIPIC centre i chose is near to her CC and they provide transport to & fro her school. However, whichever slot i chose, it will impact her learning routine in the childcare.
2) The monthly costs of government EIPIC is very high for us due to the household income which they calculates based on annual income (bonus, AWS, etc which increases annual income). I am not able to get much subsidy, therefore being in a government EIPIC is even more exp than a private centre (which calculates subsidy by monthly income).
3) The private centre I am looking at is at Newton while we are at Jurong. But they only offer weekday sessions and there is no transport, nobody to send her to and fro.
Thus, i was deciding to at least bring her to this DAS centre (i spoke to them about my child's condition where they are offering 1-to-1 speech and language therapy with doc's referral) which is near my home and it will be easier for my caregiver to help. My caregiver is not able to help with transport to & fro Newton as I have 2 other kids to manage.
Why I am doing speech therapy now is because she is also having the therapy at CDU while waiting for enrolment to EIPIC. But the frequency is too short, like once a month! I know it is not addressing the overall condition of my child, but I was hoping to do something while waiting.... I have submitted my application to the government EIPIC centre but waiting to see the final monthly costs. If too high, i am not able to enrol her, then I have no other options, do I? -

Basically, what I do is observe to see what the issue is, then break down the task into very small steps, including details like how to place fingers, hands etc, how to pull/push/twist etc. Make him practice the steps in the same order again and again until it becomes a habit. My older girl has these issues, and we still have to teach her whenever she encounters a new task. And not just motor planning either, the most recent \"planning\" lesson we did with her was essay-writing. -

Younger child does not want to attemp gym if he deemed difficult. Cannot do jump with both feet nor squat.
Even tolieting has issue teaching him due to sequencing problem.
Older one cannot do essay writing.
I wonder how to help them. -
For each task, break it down. It may seem simple to us or to other kids, but them may need it really spelled out.
Gym - if the child is not ready (because of balance, development etc), there is nothing you can do except wait. But if it is a matter of not knowing how to do it, you can teach in steps. Eg. 1 foot here, other foot there. One hand here, other hand there. Then move this foot to there, then the other to somewhere else. Then this hand to there… you get the idea. My girl had to be taught like that for payground equipment, while her younger sister was climbing and jumping all over it without guidance.
Based on my experience, there is no shortcut to this. For every sequencing problem, break it down and teach it step by step. -

Now we already met with principal of kits4kids and done for screening. Will start Program in jan 2018 -half day early intervention and halfday integrated child care program together. School bus also available. Hope it will smooth for my DD.

Your solution of going to DAS because it offers therapy is not a bad decision. It is just worthwhile noting that most therapists at DAS focus mostly on children above 7 years of age and primarily provide therapy for Phonemic awareness and development (learning to read/ write). There are other therapists who primarily provide therapy for younger children with GDD/ASD/dyslexia, etc. These therapists would be more aligned and attuned to your child's learning needs in my opinion.
As you have stated, there are not many private centers that cater to children with developmental difficulties. Their waitlist is long, they cost a bomb and they only have limited locations. I understand that your child has GDD. Is he very far behind? Depending on how your child is functioning in his current childcare, it may not be necessary for him to go to an EIPIC center or integrated childcare/ private childcare.
Bringing these two aforementioned points together, some parents have opted to stay at their current childcare and to supplement it with some home based therapy that is more focused on helping the child reach their developmental milestones in a more systematic and targeted manner. This includes home based early intervention services/ OT/ physio/ speech therapy services.
An example would be to have a speech therapist come in about once a week (market rate is ~ $180-$250 for home based services/ Speech bubbles charges $160/hr), and an early intervention teacher (market rate is ~$80 - 100). This way, your child would not have to keep changing schools and teachers, allowing him to have more consistency in his routines and caregivers. But at the same time, he would get 2X targeted practice with a 1 to 1 therapist at home (where learning is better generalised) at about ~240 a week on top of his childcare. The speech therapist can also get in touch with his school teachers or make school visits to teach them about strategies and to implement the goals while your child is at his school to promote continuity of therapy.
I hope this opens up another avenue for you to consider. No doubt it is still very pricy but it would settle logistical headaches and you would be getting a private service with 1-1 therapy/ teaching.
