Parents/Students of secondary 4 :
Will still consider enrol to the merging jcs (AJC, PJC, MJC, YJC)?
Or not considering at all (to avoid the merging state in 2019)? -

These are all the available well wishes made by NTU to current A Level Students in these JCs
Couldn't find the other JCs that were not stated which are:
CATHOLIC JUNIOR COLLEGE
INNOVA JUNIOR COLLEGE
JURONG JUNIOR COLLEGE
MERIDIAN JUNIOR COLLEGE
PIONEER JUNIOR COLLEGE
SERANGOON JUNIOR COLLEGE
ST. ANDREW'S JUNIOR COLLEGE
TAMPINES JUNIOR COLLEGE
YISHUN JUNIOR COLLEGE
I can't help but to see how NTU ranks the priority -
Based on collated 2016 A level results ( don’t have full details though and TOP 11 position only ), ranking as follow ( not official):
(1-2) RI and HCI (not too sure which is number 1 but these 2 JC are TOP 2)
(3) VJC
(4). Dunman High IP
(5). NJC (40% got 3H2 Distinctions, pass in GP)
(6). NYJC (close to 40% got 3H2 Distinctions, pass in GP).
Nyjc results almost comparable to NJC.
(7-8) ACJC and RV IP
(RV has 31% got 3 H2 Distinctions, pass in GP)
(ACJC UAS is about 81 points)
(9) TJC (UAS 80 points)
(10) AJC (139 students got at least 3 H2 Distinctions). About 20-22% if based on enrolment of about 650.
(11) SAJC (16.9% got 3H2 Distinctions) -

I can see that you haven't changed a bit, Crester-san.
You are still obsessed with JC ranking especially in promoting your DS/DD's NYJC! Are you still trying to convince yourself that you have made the right choice for your kid? Seems like you are uncertain since last year.
Most importantly, your kid must perform well at A-level disregarding which JC he/she is in.
There's no point being in a good JC but perform poorly and constantly suffering from low morale. On the other hand, one can still perform well at A-level in a lower ranking JC and enjoy himself with great confidence and good spirit.
You can't measure nor compare quantifiable and non-quantifiable factors anyway and life is not just about school results.
It will be better if you could share how your DS/DD personally benefit from the NYJC program or her experience over these 2 years if you are eager to promote NYJC
.

I ain't here to start an argument with you, mindays. You are another person who loves to promote NYJC from the day you appeared in KSP. I hope both you and Crester are not representative of the majority NYJC parents. Both of you are always out to demean other JCs and uplift NYJC which is disgraceful on your part.Raffles Institution

I will see NYJC in a much better light if you parents can stop acting like clowns for your DC's (NY)JC. Enough is enough. You are tarnishing NYJC's image if you continue to promote it this way. I think you and Crester seriously lack confidence in how others view NYJC. Is NYJC really that bad? Can I say the NTU guy who posted the above was from NYJC? :siam: -
Ksptan:
If I am an eligible parent, I will definitely consider them if my DC results meet the entry criteria and prefer to go JC instead of poly. It will also depend on my DC's ability to handle the level of stress. If DC is eligible for a better ranking JC but prefers one with a more comfortable pace, then the above merging JCs will be considered.Like to hear some opinions.

Another with be their proximity to home.
I have friends with DCs from these merging JCs and most did very well at A-levels and gotten into their dream courses in local universities. I don't see that there will be hiccups with the merging. The tutors/lecturers will still possess the skills and expertise to teach.
Ultimately, my DC must be able to cope in his/her JC chosen as JC life is very hectic and demanding. Much depends on the students themselves and not just having good teachers around. -
This point is commendable. Good one (tho dat does NOT mean I fully agree with every arguments made)

The results of the JC don't determine much when passing rate or distinction rate is close (its just a matter of a few students) NJC, NYJC, VJC all share the same standards. Don't pick on those results, it don't matter! Those results don't predict whether ur child will get the same results (no one is the same)
Using these stuffs to accuse someone is promoting just make the forum disgusting. Not because of the promotion, but those personal attacks and so on...all these please do it privately. Its unfriendly to sandwich all the useful stuffs and forcing eager parents and students to read through all the ugly comments. That isn't serving the purpose of the forum right.
Let ur kids make the choice. It their life, their experiences
The most important part is whether ur child likes the JC itself (just let go and let them choose for themselves). For the quality of the teachers the kids know it best (especially if they have interactions with their friends and seniors). Anyway it is a natural thing for independent learners to sought for better resources (be it from other JCs notes, online notes (many are good notes as long as you kid knows how to use them in the new syllabus) or seeking good tutors in college or tuition centres) If ur kid isn't able to proactively help themselves out there is no JCs capable to know exactly what the kids want spoon feed everything to them. Anyway, results don't determine quality of a person, but experiences along the way does (every school is unique in its way and definitely there is takeaways be it negative of positive stuffs). There is no point proofing and speculating which JC is better.
Anw the positive posts about the JCs on the grps are not wrong explicitly (since the term \"networking groups\" alrd meant that it is also meant for parents to share and discuss the updates in the JC). Anyway they are also bring up some details along the way (since its the basis of their arguments to begin with). Ultimately, it is up to the kids themselves where they want to go (let them take the ownership and be responsible for their decisions. Its already JC and they are grown ups!)
Encourage ur kids to go for the open-houses and visit the JCs personally to feel the air rather than relying on speculations that goes on and on.
What will be beneficial
What this forum is supposed to do ideally is to give information on the college programmes and details that is relevant to match the students' (or less ideally, parents') Sharing on programmes such as CLEP for NYJC, TJC, Humanities programme in NJC etc., what the school policy is, how the JC teach etc., or just about the JC, A Level or IB system in general.
What was shared about the good news from the college, such as some teachers getting awards, students getting awards is good to prove the strength of the college, let it be just don't \"加料\" and put down other JCs (even if it happened, don't go and enlarge it by sparking useless debates. LEAD THE DIRECTION OF THE FORUM BACK! Isn't simple to just say steer the topic around by adding a sentence that request something that benefits everyone?). Results are okay at large (to show roughly as an outcome for those who really wanted to see for themselves), BUT DON'T USE IT repeatedly TO COMPARE with other JCs with all those small percentages.
Hope these help to set the stuffs right. :grphug: -
Add-on:
JCs earn their reputation NOT exactly through results. The main thing that make a difference in the JC’s reputation is their academic and non-academic programmes (including those character, leadership programmes), as well as their policies and culture. The COP and consequently the academic results and credentials follows (which is determined by the quality of the students that go in for the programmes, that plays everything out).
Those schools that people regard commonly as "top" schools with good culture like the old hwa chong jc expecially (I am refering to the former JC with 4 red arrows) earned respect from the kind of programmes it offer. People know about and are drawn to the programmes and culture through the experiences from their seniors or from their own eyes (there is no internet anyway), which increase the competitiveness of the places, better quality students enrol, and results of the sch follow, consequently their recognition. (all top schools earn their credentials that way). hwa chong jc and raffles jc wasnt standing out until the 1990s when there is solid programmes and a good reputation of its culture. The students will tell overtime whether the JC is good.
Schs that earned respect such as NYJC, PJC and MJC also get better through their programmes, and especially its value-addedness in various aspects from teaching to CCA excellence (its basically like what is said above). Again, results don’t really tell much about the school (except the quality of the students and their hardwork. If not why even top IP students go for tuition if they can score from their tutors?). No one would like and promote a JC where there is nothing good of memories but known for good results (only because the students are already up to standard but not good programmes) It only add to the helplessness and stress but not good memories for any average student to really grow in person. In some cases, students might just end up suffering because the JC isn’t a fit for them, and teaches at a pace they can’t adapt to (it happens especially in top schools)
Again I stress that the kids must know which school is a good fit, and choose a school that he and she can enjoy and excel, not by comparison results because he isn’t taking the exam at that point in time and it might not apply to him or her that she guarantee will achieve it.
Hope all these helps to refocus the discussion. -

Wait, what's the issue now? I did not give specific comments or any support to any of the JCs in this post. What rights do you have to say that I am promoting NYJC? Why don't you say I am promoting RI, HCI, VJC, NJC, ACJC, AJC, TJC? I have too listed them collectively. You are being biased in throwing nonsensical judgements :nailbite: You seem to be more kiasu than I am

Does anyone happen to know what are the cases where \"U-turn\" is allowed for students already took A Levels to retake A Levels again the following yr and repeat JC2? Does retaking A Level require every single subject to be retaken? The criteria I suppose should be the same for all schs bah since is under national exams?
Though it is not immediately relevant to me but just curious to know more about the JC system. SEAB and JCs don't really offer these info readily :scratchhead: (perhaps is not advised?)
Thanks!
