Regards
1 toaster + 1 kettle = $43
1 toaster = $95 - $43 = $52
hard for them to understand use this
3 toaster oven +4 kettle =$120
2 toaster oven +1 kettle =$95
we can change the kettles in both the workings to be the same
8 toaster oven+4 kettle = $380
If we minus the total cost of 3 toaster oven and 4 kettles from 8 toaster oven and 4 kettle we get the cost of 5 toaster ovens.
5 toaster oven+0 kettle = $260
5 toaster ovens = $260
1 toaster oven = $52
Hope it help!

Hi all,
P5 question:
At a party, Mrs Ong gave each pupil 5 nuggets and had 30 nuggets left. If she gave each pupil 6 nuggets, she would have 4 nuggets left. How many nuggets did Mrs Ong prepare for the party? :?

TIA
30,35,40,50,55
For the 6 nuggets start from 4 and continue by adding 6 nuggets
4,10,16,22,28,34,40,46
Than the common number between this two is 40 thus the answer is 40
Hope it helped

Your 3-mark question is from http://www.orlesson.org/orp/09Ma/2009-Math-SA1-SCGS.pdf set on 13 May 2009.
Gave 5 nuggets to each pupil -> 30 nuggets left
Gave 6 nuggets to each pupil -> 4 nuggets left
6-5 = 1
30-4 = 26
26 divided by 1 = 26
So, Mrs Ong had 26 pupils.
26x5+30 = 160
Number of nuggets prepared by Mrs Ong for the party was 160. -

[5 nuggets each][...30 nuggets left...]Hi all,
P5 question:
At a party, Mrs Ong gave each pupil 5 nuggets and had 30 nuggets left. If she gave each pupil 6 nuggets, she would have 4 nuggets left. How many nuggets did Mrs Ong prepare for the party?
TIA
[....6 nuggets each....][4 nuggets left]
Using 5 nuggets per pupil (can also use 6 nuggets)
5u+30 = 6u+4
6u-5u = 30-4
u = 26
Where u is the number of pupils.
Number of nuggets = 5u+30 = 5(26)+30 = 160.
Hope that you are able to understand while waiting for Mathsguru, Dharma, Maths Monster etc to come and forward their solutions.

Cheerfuldad:
If Mrs Ong gives each pupil 1 extra nugget, she will be left with 26 less nuggets (which means she gives out 26 extra nuggets; each pupil gets 1 extra nuggets). So, there must be 26 pupil.Hi all,
P5 question:
At a party, Mrs Ong gave each pupil 5 nuggets and had 30 nuggets left. If she gave each pupil 6 nuggets, she would have 4 nuggets left. How many nuggets did Mrs Ong prepare for the party? :?
TIA
No. of pupil = 26
No. of nuggets prepared
= (26 x 5) + 30 = 160
or
= (26 x 6) + 4 = 160 -

Q3) A set of dictionaries which fitted exactly 4 shelves, each 2.05m long, was replaced by a new set. Every 7 old dictionaries was replaced by 4 new ones, each 5 cm thick. If the new set of dictionaries also fitted the 4 shelves exactly, what was the difference in the number of books between the two sets?
Answer: 120 dictionaries
Total thickness of dictionaries = 4 x 205cm = 820cm
Each shelf will have 205cm/5cm = 41 new dictionaries
No. old dictionaries that were replaced by the new set per row = (41/4) x 7 = 287/4 = 71.75
Only 71 old dictionaries fit into each row of the shelf.
Total number of old dictionaries = 4 x 71 = 284
Total number of new dictionaries = 4 x 41 = 164
Difference in the number of dictionaries = 284 β 164 = 120
(You cannot tear off a portion of a dictionary to force it into a shelf !!!)
