Thought I will do my part to contribute here based on my dd’s past 4 years experience.

She DSA into CGS. Looking back, she didn’t meet the cut off and probably considered as lower end of the cohort. She "struggled" through Sec 1 (but she never failed any subject) and from Sec 2, she started to pick herself up and eventually went on to the "top" class in Sec 3 and 4. All these years, we believed that she is indeed blessed to be offered a place. She just sat for her O levels this year. Generally, we didn’t have to worry about whether she is well-prepared for O levels and we left it to the school to help them.

Pros :
* Girls are pretty balanced. Academic but also loud/ fun loving. This is particularly evident when they are doing school cheers.
* Don’t think they are the "studious/ nerd" type but also don’t come across as the "vain" type. So pretty balanced.
* Despite being near to orchard, don’t see my dd hanging out with friends in orchard after school (except to take MRT home). Her outings with friends seems to after exams/ to study together. Didn’t have the teenage challenge.
* Didn’t have to worry about BGR issues.

Cons (which can happen in any school) :
* While the school prepare them well academically, sometimes the teachers they get (like any other schools) can be a luck thing. dd has a humanities teacher who don’t seem to be doing much for her class (eg. not marking the papers, etc…). As it’s her only humanities, we have to "invest" in some last minute crash course prior to O levels (to aid her in answering techniques). dd kept telling us she will try to manage it herself through consultation, etc… but after prelims, she still have gaps. It was an expensive investment and hopefully it pays off. Heard from dd that her friends do have tuition outside schools.
* While my dd has a good experience, she does have friends who spent time on their mobile phone, etc… so despite joining the school with good PSLE scores, they didn’t do well and sort of struggled. But frankly, I feel that this is driven by individual and can happen to anyone/ in any schools. There are girls who may be detained in Sec 3, etc…

For us, experience has been good and dd is self-driven.

Hi, my DD got 249.She was planning to put CGS as first choice but then her teacher also suggested CHIJ St. Theresa's, St. Margaret's, etc. I'm living in Queenstown so Redhill area/Tanglin area is very convenient. DD still likes CGS but I'm sort of afraid that COP will increase from 241 because 2015 the COP was rather high. Anyway, are CGS classes based on how well they did in PSLE with best classes,etc. ? My DD is near the lower end of students planning to enter. How are the P and VP? How about the teachers? Does it emphasise a lot on academics or is it well balanced? Do students with lower T-scores find it challenging to keep up? Someone kindly answer my queries. TIA!

Actually, based on last year's COP, your girl is not considered as \"students with lower T-scores\". Median COP for last year's batch was 246, so strictly speaking, your girl is in the top 50 percentile.

Does she also have HMT bonus points?

No, but isn't that only for SAP schools?

Yes, HMT bonus points are for SAP schools. Hence, if she has HMT bonus points, you may also consider other schools (e.g. RV). Since she doesn't have, end of story.

Anyone knows how non-DSA girls are allocated a CCA? Are there CCA Trials and do they have to be skilled in the CCA to join? For example, my friend’s DD wants to join the choir but she has no Musical training and cannot read scores but she has a passion for singing and can sing quite well. Is it possible for her to join Choir or will she have to either learn musical theory or join another CCA? Thanks

My impression is that there are trials (sports) and auditions (performing arts) to attend before one can get into those cca.

Hi , can i just ask if there is school bus service from seng kang to crescent girls’ cos i dun like the idea of my girl squeezing mrt and trying to board a busload of students and wait for a few bus before she can board. Guess it will be worst for rainy day.


So need to check before she puts it as a first choice.
