Hi parents,

May I know where to find resources for Julius caesar other than sparksnotes and cliffsnotes?
Thanks because my son is weak in english

      Hi manifits,
As the class exercises and tests will be mainly on passage-based comprehensions, the sparknotes / cliffnotes will more than suffice. Your boy just needs to take down notes in class and go through the text at home. Also, they will not cover the entire book.

Hihi, may I know what is sparknotes / cliffnotes? where can I get them?
You can google for it. They are on the web. You can find spark notes in public libraries too.

Hi, I am considering to place my son in HCI. I understand that this is an IP school & it is very competitive. In the event if my son does not do well in IP route, can he switch to do O levels instead but remain in HCI? At which level can he switch? Sec 2, 3 or 4?

I have the very same concern as you when we are considering HCI for our son.
If the boys dun meet the mark at sec two, they will be placed in structured IP in sec three. If they do well in sec three, they will then continue their IP program in sec four else they will then move on to sec four o level class.

Hi, what do you mean by structured IP? Is it according to O levels curriculum? If I understand you correctly, he will only be posted to o level class in sec 4 and that only leaves them 1 year to prepare for o levels?

Structured IP in S3 is a prog that is already preparing for O level. In HCI, boys are all afraid to end up in SIP in S3 n Q class in S4. Fm what I observed, boys who go to SIP are those who gamed too much and those who were drilled f PSLE. Out f the 5-6 boys in my son’s S2 class (2016)who went to SIP, 4 entered HCI via PSLE score, 1 sports DSA & 1 academic DSA. Everyone start on the same starting line regardless of PSLE score n mode f entrance. To survive, one has to be independent in learning & diligent. Hope it gives you some idea about IP/SIP in HCI.

to be clear, you can't opt to switch to an O-level class. You are streamed to Structured IP (SIP) in sec 3 if you do not meet the passing grade in Sec 2. SIP boys have a good chance of making it back to IP in sec 4 if they work hard.

Have a look at the current assessment & promotion critieria in HCI\": http://www.hci.edu.sg/admissions/high_school/assessment-promotion-criteria#assessment-and-promotion-criteria

Qualifier: It may change from year to year.
