My DD have consistently performed well and top her class. When we were choosing her sec sch, the first 3 were IPs, next 3 SAPs. I was confident that she could score at least 250+. When the results were released, I was devastated. She scored only 235. I was in a state of shock and disappointment. My ego was humbled by the result. These few days I’ve come to terms of this reality. I’ve accepted her limitations. She is what she is. This is a valuable lesson that I learned. I hope I can share.

For different schools, the PSLE prelim scores can be plus/minus 20 points compared to actual scores!

That's true. I can attest to that. Most of the kids in my dc school had much better psle score than prelim score.
A sap school I know had many students with high prelims score. But lower psle scores. One reason could be due to their easy prelims papers which I had access to.
Yes

Thank you for heartfelt and honest sharing. I like ksraja69's remarks about \"rebounding in style\".

I also want to add that 235 is a great score, one that will get her into a great school. Besides, PSLE is just one exam which really does not define anyone in any way. All the best for Sec 1 and beyond. The best is yet to be 🙂

For the 3 PSLE that I have seen my DD and DSs went through, I have come across a number of top 10 in school prelim but not in PSLE. Two years ago, my DS2 surprisingly made it to top 10 in school in PSLE. However, our pleasant surprise was short lived. Soon after getting into one of the top institutions, he started to lag behind and culminate in being diagnosed as depression. Though he is more stable now and managed to continue the IP curriculum, he should be much happier if he had gone to a school of his expected tscore of 235-245. What he had gone through for the past 2 years reminded me of 塞翁失马焉知非福. What appear to be good fortune, may be disaster in disguise and vice versa. We have learnt to take thing easy.

Just for sharing, my friend's DD scored less than 215 in last year PSLE. They were having problem finding a decent school during S1 posting, eventually ended up in one of those less than desirable school near her house. This whole year in Sec, my friend's dd experienced classmates not going home after school, teachers spending 3/4 lesson time on discipline issues and classmates MIA from school.......Now year end of Sec one, friend's DD did exceptionally well, not only did she top the class, she also TOP the Sec one Express cohort. Next year she will be transferred to a good girl's school near Katong :rahrah: End of the day, unwavering support and love for your DC will help guide and pull them thru a minor setback in life 😄

I can totally feel your pain jyeo1963 :hugs:

We are exactly in the same situation as you 😢 DD has consistently been in the top classes in a popular primary school (one of those in the past year exam papers school list). We had also expected her to score 25X but she ended up with 23X (she hit 26X in P6 exam). It was totally shocking and unexpected. DD also didn't expect it too cos she didn't find the PSLE papers any difficult compared to school exams.

It was really tough coming to terms with it the 1st few days, especially so when we don't get to see the papers and have no clue what went wrong...

With our support and assurance, DD recovered pretty quickly but I seriously have phobia now thinking about her O 'Levels 😢

A close relative’s son, scored 23+ in PSLE, went to a neighbourhood school (COP in the 230s range). ‘O’ level result was decent enough to enter mid-tier JC but opted for poly instead. He did well in poly, receiving (poly’s?) scholarship every year. I was told that he applied, and was accepted by NUS’s law school. He’s still doing his NS now; will go NUS after that.

Thank you, jyeo1963, for your honest sharing. The journey is a long one and success or failure at one early test does not determine one’s future. We want to protect our children from disappointment and pain, but really, without regret, how do we move forward? I’m certain that with your continued support and positive perspective she will come out of this experience even stronger!

For this year’s PSLE, my P6 mummy friends were telling me for my school, there is this group who were expected to get 26X based on prelim results ended up with 24X or 25X only. They were shocked as the names of the 26X did not appear in the top performers list ( usually for above 260).

Conversely, there is this group who expected to only getting 225 to 235 ended up with 245 to 252.

Not sure if the same thing is happening in other schools as well this year? Anyone can share?
