One of the reason IMHO, Yumin is not as popular as other neighbourhood schools in Tampines possibly bcoz the school does not has a variety of CCAs in school. I was kinda disappointed too, not much sports CCAs. I guess their niche is just not in sports but in uniform group and aesthetic. There used to be softball for boys but was later disbanded when the school had their PERI upgrading. Football was then introduced till now.

        What happened at PERI upgrading?

I think it’s quite obvious too that the school is putting in lots of effort in promote the string ensemble. They gave a performance during the immersion programme. They showcased duets and even solo during orientation.

hi parents, my child is in 1 Diligence and while we were packing the schoolbag earlier, we noticed that there isn't any English textbook, activity book or worksheets. There isn't any EL books on the booklist too, unless your child is not taking Chinese or Malay.

I googled and it seems that some schools do not have EL textbooks as they want to introduce real life learning, and the books and worksheets will be provided by the teacher during class.

Not sure if any parents with children in Yumin Pri can confirm? I just want to make sure that we did not miss out anything..

Do you know how they split the children into classes? I know that during the orientation last year they had the children complete an assessment. Is Diligence in the last class or something? Their classes are all distributed in accordance to their values (respect, compassion, perseverance, integrity), nothing about diligence? hehe.

I am also a little disappointed about the CCAs in the school. Boys are highly active, and they can only opt for soccer or volleyball under sports.. it's weird that they don't even have basketball. While holistic development are important, i think it's also critical to allow children to be exposed to other sports and be part of them. Not sure if we can feedback or anything to the school..

As well, any parents have children in P1 this year? Perhaps we can form a WhatsApp group or something for communication without flooding the thread.. 🙂 Feel free to PM me your number if keen

No more big sch field...being replaced by the ISH.
Hahaha yes I agree about the efforts for the string ensemble.

              Hi Liselle,

For this sch, there aint any Eng textbooks but depending on which class you are in, for some there will be additional english books/materials required. The schools used Stellar worksheets which are included in the booklist.

As far as I know during the previous principal stint, there were assessment conducted to ‘group’ the children according to their capabilities. The classes were 1A(being the best class), 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E and 1F(being the last class).
The school started rebranding the classes only a year ago.

Not too sure whether there are any changes to introduce any new CCAs this year. Hahaha my girl aren’t those musical inclined type. She’s those very 'rough and ‘gungho’ type. I’m hoping there are new sports CCAs. Else netball is the only one for her.

I’m keen to join the WhatsApp group. I’ll pm you my no. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification, zalina! Btw, I didn't know about the Stellar worksheets. Teacher also didn't claim it from my girl in the first week.

And thanks for the initiative too, Liselle, I will PM you as well 🙂

I know the kids are just trying to settle down and it’s still very early, but just to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone know if it’s possible for P1 to join a CCA? I know the girl who performed cello on the first day of school joined the ensemble in P1 but maybe it’s exception?

If I recall correctly there would be a CCA ‘bazaar’. A memo would be sent in due course. I remember my boy was told to go for the football trial when he was in p2 and he was selected to join football for his CCA. But am not certain now whether things have changed now.

I see… Do parents attend the bazaar too?
