Hi my DD in 1E, taking normal Chinese. May I ask those parents with children taking HCL, does your child took HCL in Psle? Initially I thought it is compulsory to take HCL like in CHUNG CHENG HIGH Main but is not the case here. My DD wasn't offered HCL. I'm wondering why. Anyone can enlighten?

That's very probably why Chung Cheng Main cut off point is now 242, while Anglican High is 238.

I think is because CCHM is affiliated to NYJC which is getting more and more popular. Whereas AHS is affiliated to SAJC.

So once in CL basically don't stand much chance to go to HCL unless marks in range of 90s. Anyone knows AHS has how many classes of HCL and CL? I understand that there are some students opting out of HCL during registration. I'm curious why don't they give a shot at it since they can still choose CL if result is not satisfactory.

Some students are resist to take higher chinese, even given a chance to try.
Once they heard that any sch which make higher chinese is compulsory, they wont even consider the sch.
Parent cannot force their kids to take up.
Afterall, they are grown up teenagers, hv their own mind of thinking.

I agree parents shouldn’t force. But this school is a so called SAP chinese background school. The way it is doing now is not providing students choice. It is closing the doors on them. The so called SAP is not there.

Sec 1 has 5 classes CL and 5 classes HCL.

Thanks parents for sharing the insightful information.

Personally thinks that HCL is quite tough at pri sch level, cant imagine it at sec sch level…keke… And Ranting is right, if the sch has made HCL compulsory, think many p6 wont even consider that school which will affect their subscription rate. By norm, all pri SAP sch students will start off with HCL, I also thought it is the same for sec school. Till I went to Anglican open hse, I asked the Chinese teachers, thn realised it is not compulsory…! So I guess nowadays MOE will allow the schools to go towards certain directions that the management thinks that it is more suitable?

I feel they should make it compulsory for all students to take HCL otherwise it depict the purpose of being a SAP school. For those that cannot make the mark later on, can still drop to normal Chinese. If they didn't offer it to all students, those who can actually score in HCL won't even have the chance to prove it. If the student did well in Sec 1 normal Chinese, will he or she be offered HCL in Sec 2?

Nevertheless, it is still beneficial for the CL students in AHS as they get to study chinese history & chinese lit plus immerse in chinese culture like tea appreciation, calligraphy etc , which i believe cannot be found in nonSAP schools.
