I would like to find out more info about the latest local Uni - I believe they only have 1 batch in 2016/2017 (under SUSS banner). Appreciate any feedback on COP for business finance course, lecturers etc. Thanks in advance.
Sorry to say, I hadn’t heard of this new Uni in Singapore. (I also do not have a TV at home, so maybe that explains it...)
Maybe you could update the thread topic to include the full name: SUSS (Singapore University of Social Sciences)? Easier for people to understand - and will turn up in search results too.
I went to google SUSS and found the official website:
http://www.suss.edu.sg/Pages/index.aspx
They are having an open house on 24 Feb 2018, 11am-5pm. So maybe you can go down to enquire more? -
how well is this SUSS degree recognised, compared to those who graduated from NUS with similar degree?

Updated the topic, thanks for the suggestion.

Besides info from the website, I would like to hear from any students or anyone who has more info or experience with SUSS undergraduate programs particular with business degree. -

I think the answer is obvious, it will take SUSS some years to establish itself. That said, I am curious about the course content and quality of lecturers hired. -
I think SUSS was previously SIM or something?

Previously UniSIM. Refer to http://www.suss.edu.sg/about-suss/Overview/Pages/Milestones.aspx -

SUSS is not a brand new, brand new university. It’s a port of the old UniSIM, effectively a rebranding - renaming exercise. Acceptance of their degree, course content, quality of lecturers hired etc would be at a similar level to UniSIM - at least in the initial years. -
Content yes, quality of lecturers no.

The only way to find out about the quality of lecturers is if they conduct course previews, which some private schools do to convince customers.
I’m looking at using my SkillsFuture credits to take some post-grad modules myself. Noted from my brief glance thru that there are some IT/science type courses that don’t even seem to be Social Sciences at all! -

Personally, I'm less concern about the quality of the lecturers than the quality of the toilet paper. The only way to find out about the quality of lecturers is if they conduct course previews, which some private schools do to convince customers.

You are equally likely to get bad lecturers in a good university programme, or good lecturers in a bad university programme. Plus, if you are the perpetually unlucky kind, the best lecturers will never be assigned to your class anyway
I recall having to sit through a whole semester of lectures conducted by a FT academic but never understood a word of what he said. Mind you, it isn't about the subject content.
P/S: ok, I only sit through 2 lectures and spend the rest of my time drinking kopi in the canteen because I figure networking / self-study is a better use of my time. -
I saw one of my former lecturers from NUS (David Lee) now teaching in SUSS. Also talked to another professor (Accountancy) who told me that he had lectured in NTU for more than 10 years. Looks like a number of lecturers have transferred here from SMU, NTU and NUS. Since SUSS is part of MOE - don’t think it will let it fail.
-
I have a colleague who studied at SUSS - take scholarship under MOH. Being posted by MOH to our organisation for 1 year. SUSS is confirm recognise in Singapore. But I am not sure how recognise it is at overseas.

Considerations for all universities
1. Ranking i.e. tied to overseas recognition
2. Recognition by companies i.e. tied to potential pay a student is able to get
3. Recognition by students i.e. is SUSS preferred over other universities?
Would not wish to overgeneralise but these 3 criteria seem to be the natural criteria for most people when choosing a university. -
Hi, it’s been almost five years since the last post. Could anyone share their experience and/or view of SUSS? Thank you.

Some ksp had shared , it’s one the 6 uni govern by MOE , under sg education framework . Still better than any other private uni offered in town la, should be bah…
It is still a good choice for A level n poly grads who are not eligible for the popular 3 , nus, smu, ntu. Local HR know what are these universities. Mayb starting pay May be lower but with experiences n skills , may be able to catch up pay in abt 2 yrs time . I heard there are also overseas exchange programs to widen the horizon . -
