Full time tutor to my 2 kids, P6 and P4…and others on part-time basis. Hope to learn from gurus in this forum and also to share my knowledge.

may i ask the maths monster, where to get the formula / practice sum on consecutive fractions ?

Thanks. There are several patterns for consecutive fractions, one is the rule that 1 / (axb) where a and b is a pair consecutive numbers, then 1 / (a x b) = 1/a - 1/b
example - a = 5, b = 6
1 / (axb) = 1 / (5x6) = 1/30 or
1 / (axb) = 1 / (5x6) = 1/5 - 1/6 = 6/30 - 5/30 = 1/30
this is useful to solve problem which have appeared in some P6 papers:
1/(2x3) + 1/(3x4) + 1/(4x5)......+ 1/(98x99) + 1/(99x100)
= 1/2 - 1/3 + 1/3 -1/4 + 1/4 -1/5.....+ 1/98 - 1/99 + 1/99 - 1/100
= 1/2 - 1/100
= 49/100
Another pattern is 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 5/6, 6/7......
The difference between consecutive fractions will be 1/6, 1/12, 1/20, 1/30, 1/42....ie 1/(n^2+n) using quadratic sequence. You can probably Google for other patterns. Have fun! Cheers -
