Understand that in my DD's school, pupils can only continue HCL in Sec 4 if they score A1 or A2 in Sec 3 O' Level CL. Is this the same practice for other schools?

      Nope, not for Cedar/VS/IJ.
Is yr child in a SAP sec sch? I recall Nan Hua has this policy. Seems CCHM also.

B3 ( MTL) will not be able to bring home a C6 (HMTL) ??
My son’s friends did this. Bs in MTL and Cs in HTML, helped them get into RI even : )
But it doesn’t matter, H1 Chinese is easier than O lvl HMT. Some of my son’s friends who failed HMT got As/Bs in H1 Chinese.
If all else fails, there’s still CL(B) in JC. A friend of my son got into NUS Law and he just passed CL(B) : )

Hi All, tried finding but unable to get the specific book…

Is the 250 Chinese Idioms book really useful or compulsory to digest? I saw many versions and not sure which is more comprehensive. Can please advise?

My Daughter scored B3 for O level Chinese. She took this exam last year when she was in Sec 3. Her teacher now told her to withdraw from Higher Chinese in Sec 4, because HCL paper is very difficult and likely my daughter will score F9. However the same teacher at same time she told her that she has potential to score A1 for O level Chinese if she retakes this year in Sec 4. Question is, is it possible that there is such a huge gap between O level CL and HCL?

Same here, seems like teachers are sending them away from HMTL. B3 ( MTL) will not be able to bring home a C6 (HMTL) ??

In general cases, there is 2 grades gap between O level CL and HCL. Eg. if you score A2 for O level Chinese, you probably socre B4 for O level Higher Chinese. That's why you choose HMTL will get 2-point deduction. But nothing is absolute, it's possible to score B4 or B3 for HCL if you only score B3 for CL. It depends on student's attitude, effort and foundation , of course good teacher and luck are also important.

                    Hi

                    I have a question:
Can HCL students retake the O level CL paper in Sec 4 (to try for A1), if they only scored A2 for O Level CL paper in Sec 3? How many chances to do the CL paper for HCL students?

I understand that most schools usu make the HCL students do their O level CL paper in Sec 3, then focus on O Level HCL in Sec 4. Those who don’t do HCL at all are allowed to do their CL papers 1 & 2 in May and given a final chance to retake papers 1 & 2 in Nov at Sec 4.

It depends on the student's preference. For some schools, students are allowed to take HCL in Sec 4 only if they scored A1/A2 for Express Chinese in Sec 3. So, if a student were to score A2 in Express Chinese in Sec 3, the school will usually encourage the student to take HCL in Sec 4. The student has a choice whether he wants to retake Express Chinese in Sec 4. However, if he does that, he will not be able to HCL in Sec 4.

Any idea how will the O level compute:

Scenario A) A1 for English, 2 pure science, 2 Maths (E&A) however CL got C6 versus

Scenario B) A1 for English, 2 pure science, 2 Maths (E&A) and CL got B4.

                        Thank you.
