DH keeps wanting to do piecemeal reno. I told him to wait a couple more years then we decide if we want to do a total reno if we decide to continue living in our current place.

1st he talk about changing ceiling fans when the fans are still working fine. Just that we feel that we do not need such big ceiling fans and there are many new designs out there these days.

Then he say wanna redo all the lightings. I think since we are older now we find that we need brighter lights! šŸ˜†

Then he talk about repainting the whole place and wanna reconfigure our wardrobes and shoe cabinet.

Why not? I love shifting furniture and changing looks! Changing lights and fans are not too painful but can give a new feel to the place. A fresh coat of paint is an easy way to spruce up too.

Anyway he is the slightly restless type right? This can be a rather good way of letting him spend his time on family rather than golf etc. Go and look at fans and lights together, pore over magazines and internet images etc.

Erm, the way our house is currently designed and the lighting that DH is looking at will mean redoing our false ceiling. Not a simple small job. It may also mean rewiring.

When DH wants to do something, it is never easy simple job. Will always lead to since doing this why not do that and that and that. And then he will disappear for his business trip and no, he will never give up his golf to supervise the reno.

He is also not planner, not one who will do research and hunt for things. So when we want to do any such stuff I must make sure I am ready to handle these stuff

Ah, this here is the dealbreaker.

Reno is never my interest; imagine the dust and rubbish during reno

Am perfectly happy with status quo

But sometimes really need to reno due to wear and tear of most things.

Been living in my current place for almost 13yrs. Over the years we have done some minor jobs here and there but looking at the condition of most of the stuff, think in another 2-3yrs time we should do another major one.

Some people will wait until a lot needs to be done, then they move out for a few months and get the whole lot done. My flat is about 20 yrs now, and we had the bathrooms renovated 5 yrs ago. Other than that, we've had the flat repainted 2-3 times over the years and a few things replaced (the not-so-messy things). There are things that are deteriorating, and we know that we will probably have to do something in a few years' time, especially the kitchen cabinets. I think we will do the \"one fell swoop\" renovation rather than piecemeal. Might as well move out and get all the messy stuff done at the same time.
